To all the Microsoft Admins in my network. Read about the CBS News article below regarding Microsoft users around the world that are reporting widespread outages. On Friday, widespread outages affected Microsoft 365 apps globally, impacting banks, airlines, TV stations, and health systems. Thousands of flights and train services were canceled in the U.S. and Europe, and many public and retail services faced disruptions. Microsoft 365 acknowledged the issue and worked to reroute traffic to healthy infrastructure. The problem was linked to a technical issue with CrowdStrike, a cybersecurity firm. CrowdStrike’s CEO confirmed that a defect in a single content update for Windows hosts caused the outages, but it was not a security incident or cyberattack. The issue was identified, isolated, and a fix was deployed. The outages affected various sectors, including airlines like American Airlines, Delta, and Lufthansa, hospitals in Germany, and pharmacies in the U.K. Despite the disruptions, there was no indication of malicious cyber activity. Hopefully this outage did not affect you? #cybersecurity #microsoft #usda #crowdstrike #alphaomega #cvp #dynamotechnologies

Today’s Microsoft issue highlights yet again the importance of robust testing and strategic deployment practices. Deploying updates and new features can be risky, but there are proven methods to mitigate these risks and ensure smoother rollouts. Two key strategies that come to mind are Blue-Green deployments and Canary deployments. Blue-Green Deployments: This approach involves running two identical production environments. The idea is to have one environment (blue) running the current version of your application while the other environment (green) runs the new version. This allows for thorough testing and a quick switch back if something goes wrong. Canary Deployments: With this method, new updates are rolled out to a small subset of users first. This allows for close monitoring and catching any issues early before the update reaches a larger audience. By adopting these strategies, companies can significantly reduce the risk of widespread disruptions and ensure a more stable experience for users.

Microsoft Confirms New Outage Was Triggered By Cyberattack Once again the painful reality that being affected by a successful attack is *when* not if.... Big or small, sometimes the red team wins. It's about how it affects your operations and how you respond... Security is never 100% - it needs to be baked in at design, at the enterprise level - not just technology. https://lnkd.in/dUwbDy4S #securebydesign #redteamwins #detectandrespond

🚨New Post! 😱 💻 ☁ After today's Crowdstrike and Microsoft outages, I started to think about how we've built this automated, software-defined house of cards around us that is really, really awesome when it works, but pretty devastating when it doesn't. I'm not suggesting that the old way was better...just that what happened today could happen to anyone. Now we (vendors, customers, service providers, etc.) have an opportunity to revisit how this happened and make improvements to our processes. https://lnkd.in/gAu8qUUN
