Exciting news in the fight to end osteoarthritis! University of Colorado Boulder, in partnership with the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus and Colorado State University, has secured up to $39 million from the Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health (ARPA-H) to lead the Novel Innovations for Tissue Regeneration in Osteoarthritis (NITRO) program. This initiative is set to pioneer noninvasive therapies that aim to halt and reverse the effects of osteoarthritis, which affects over 32.5 million Americans. Led by Stephanie J. Bryant, professor in the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering Program, and the BioFrontiers Institute, the NITRO program will work to develop treatments to regenerate joint tissues. This includes exploring innovative solutions such as regenerative injections, biomaterials for structural support, and systemic therapies for widespread joint recovery. This milestone reflects CU Boulder's integral role in driving scientific discoveries with the potential for profound societal benefits and highlights our commitment to solving one of the most pressing health issues of our time. #ARPAH #Osteoarthritis #Cure #Research #Innovation #CUBoulder #ChemicalEngineering #BiologicalEngineering #MaterialScience

I'm thrilled to announce that I have joined the Journeys Metabolic team! I've said for many years that I am on a mission to "change the weight of the world." As part of this mission, I founded Heartland Weight Loss; the first insurance-based Obesity Medicine clinic in the Greater Kansas City area. Over the past five years, we have seen phenomenal growth, primarily driven by referrals from amazing clinicians in the area. In 2022, I opened a second location in Lawrence, Kansas (hiring Maribeth Orr, D.O., DABFM, DABOM to anchor that space). Again - success. The world clearly needs (and wants) brick-and-mortar Obesity Medicine clinics! However, scaling an in-person model bigger and bigger simply isn't my cup of tea - nor is it an effective way to bring evidence-based therapies to the masses. With the recent explosion of interest in this field, I have had multiple offers to partner with technology companies. I've never been opposed to the idea - it's a great way to effectively disseminate ten years of knowledge/experience to a bigger audience. Sadly, most of these tech startups are on a mission to either capitalize upon prescribing GLP-1 agonists to as many people as possible and/or promote the outdated, unscientific narrative of "eat-less, move-more" combined with some sort of motivational tool to help people embrace the misery that narrative creates. When I was approached by Journeys Metabolic and dug into their product, it was immediately clear that the leadership of this company gets it. The entire mission of the program is to help patients with metabolic health by focusing on repairing the underlying pathology that happens upstream (at the cellular level), which will inevitably have an impact downstream - improving all sorts of cardiometabolic diseases - including obesity. With a mission grounded in people and results (NOT prescriptions and profits) and a leadership team passionate about metabolic health, I couldn't NOT be a part of this company! I believe Journeys has what it takes to turn this epidemic of chronic disease around - at scale. I'm excited to see what happens as we explode into the marketplace in 2024!
Thrilled to announce Courtney Younglove, M.D., FOMA, FACOG, DABOM as Journeys Metabolic's new Chief Medical Officer! We're grateful for your everyday passion and solution-oriented approach to solving the metabolic health crisis at scale. Onwards and upwards. Welcome! Jim Howard, Steve Edwards, Greg Robinson, Jessica Yang, Melissa Leonard, #metabolichealth, #valuebasedcare, #team

Anatomic Pathologist | Mentor/Coach | Nonprofit Volunteer | ACVP Board of Directors | Leadership Enthusiast | Educator | Medical Writer | Director of Pathology Laboratory Operations at CBSET
𝐖𝐈𝐍𝐍𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐖𝐄𝐄𝐊: 𝐖𝐇𝐀𝐓 𝐖𝐈𝐍𝐒 𝐃𝐈𝐃 𝐘𝐎𝐔 𝐂𝐄𝐋𝐄𝐁𝐑𝐀𝐓𝐄 𝐋𝐀𝐒𝐓 𝐖𝐄𝐄𝐊? I asked our Pathology team what went well for them last week, and here are a few of their thoughts: ✅ Congratulations to CBSET’s Hayden Dillow! He just found out that his poster abstract submission for ACVP2024 was accepted! So he’ll be joining us pathologists in Seattle in December for the annual meeting. ✅ Our Histology Team has been really stretched recently, between histology projects and other priority tasks that have pulled our team members in different directions. They’ve done an admirable job of keeping up! ✅ Our Necropsy team has similarly done a great job of strategizing to meet study timelines and navigate complex study needs. ✅ Our IHC scientist continues to do an excellent job. He is currently working on various method development projects to optimize some markers that have previously been temperamental. He’s getting some great results! ✅ Nicole Cedrone and Madi Keefe fine tuned their plumbing skills this week. After an equipment leak, they decided to hit the aisles of Home Depot to pick up some tubing, and they managed to seal the leak point! Move over MacGyver! ———————————————— WHY AM I SHARING THIS? I work in a fast-paced research environment, in which there’s a never-ending conveyer belt of work, with long days, tight deadlines, and unplanned extra stuff that throws a spanner into the works literally every day. I bet most of you can relate to much of all of this. It takes a dedicated team with their eye on the mission to come together and do their best to win the week. I’m privileged to be part of one such team. Every weekend, I like to reflect on the wins we had in our department during the past week. It’s easy to focus on the frustrations, the curveballs, or what you didn’t quite check off the To Do list. So I find that a little positive reframing is not just a good reminder of what went well, but also sets me up for a positive start to the new week. I try to remember to share some of these wins here, because it makes them seem more real.
