Friday was our annual Juneteenth Farmers Market, hosted by our Impossible Black Employee Resource Group (IBERG). The market was full of local Black-owned Bay Area businesses with their products on display, delicious food, and of course, a photo booth for attendees to capture memories from the day. Thank you to our IBERG leadership council for holding our biggest farmers market event yet and to the vendors for stopping by! Local to the Oakland area? Check out our vendors to show your support: Brutha’s Honey, Penrose Apothecary, Cocoa Centric, Run the World Clothing, and Pollinate Farm.

RIESLING ANYONE? The lieutenant governors of IA, SC, NV, & USVI and I discussed justice, tourism, finance, workforce & agriculture with state leaders of Rheinland Palatinate in Germany today, and we toured the state’s prison (no pix because no phones). It turns out the agriculture of the area is WINE, specifically Riesling. Check out the small business owners who taught us about winemaking - Konstantin and Stephanie Guntrum, the 11th generation vintners of Louis Guntrum Wine. Breeding for produce flavor that can win in a commercial setting? Very hard, especially within a highly fragmented value chain. Who is winning? Driscoll’s makes a strong case, with a fantastic portfolio of products! Love this article, with a clear description of how the flavor/yield trade off can be navigated. Here’s to better health through better fruits and veg! https://lnkd.in/gZYN_hVa

It's #NationalCerealDay, and our clients, Brandi and Noel, co-owners of Day & Night Exotic Cereal Bar in Springfield Town Center, Va., brought a large array of cereal options for the FOX 5 DC morning team to try out. They even debuted a new locally made cereal--Capitol City Crunch--that's coming soon. #GoodDayDC https://lnkd.in/ezm-ef6V

Unsettling fact: Most grass-fed beef organ meats go to landfills to rot. Why? Several reasons: #1- White folks like me don't know that those organ meats are the most nutrient-dense parts of the animal, so we don't buy it #2 - Black and brown folks who do know that organ meats are super valuable often don't have access to grass-fed beef for lots of reasons #3 - It's hard for grass-fed meat processors to get the equipment and labor required to prepare these organ meats for sale So what are we going to do about it? We're going to throw a party! If you are a big thinker who loves food, and will be in Colorado this January, come join us! We're bringing together ranchers, meat processors, food entrepreneurs, investors, and scientists to learn about this problem, eat some tasty food prepared by Chef Edwin Sandoval of Xatrucho, and start building some businesses to solve this circular economy problem. Because if we want regenerative ag, we've got to be regenerative consumers! Register here for your ticket: https://lnkd.in/gvHz2zjm Fun Fact: You may be wondering what the largest beef processors do with these organ meats. They have enough economies of scale that they can actually save these meats from landfills by cleaning them and sending them to countries who value them. They've pioneered access to these important meats for a long time. Thanks CSU Spur, Colorado State University, the Meat Summit, the International Livestock Forum, and others for your support of Colorado's ranchers!
