The prevalence of degeneration visualized on MRI in the asymptomatic cohort must be differentiated from symptoms produced by acute periarticular edema and joint information. In this new article by Julbe et al., the authors provide insight related to facet joint effusion, marrow edema, and soft tissue edema that is often not reported in radiology reports (SPINE Vol 49 10: 733-740.). #AGS2024: Rates of intraoperative complications, cystoid macular edema (CME), and visual improvements are similar between patients who receive cataract extraction combined with trabeculectomy (phaco+trab) compared with patients who undergo cataract extraction after prior trabeculectomy (post-trab phaco), according to research presented at the American Glaucoma Society's 2024 Annual Meeting. Presented by Joseph Toma, MD, PhD, (of Jones Eye Institute, UAMS - University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences) and colleagues. Congratulations to Trine Kobberø, Anne Myrup Houmøller, and Natalie Borregaard! 🥳 They just published their first article in the American Journal of Otolaryngology from Elsevier, titled: "Individualized repositioning with a mechanical rotational chair facilitates successful treatment of patients with very retractable benign paroxysmal positional vertigo" 👏 The article investigated the treatment of very refractory benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (vrBPPV) using a mechanical rotation chair (MRC) tailored to individual patients' vertical semicircular canal (SCC) angles. Patients with vrBPPV showed significant differences in SCC angles compared to standard angles, with individualized MRC treatment providing subjective relief and objective remission for more patients. The findings suggest that considering individual inner ear anatomy may improve treatment outcomes for vrBPPV 🧠 The article has its roots in the group's bachelor project from Spring 2020. The clinical research at the ENT Department caught their interest, and they decided to write their bachelor project here. After the successful defense of the bachelor project, the authors continued the data collection process, and the article has been in the pipeline ever since 😮💨 Finally, the authors have completed all the work and can share it via an open-access article (link at the bottom) ⬇️ This process has meant a lot of learning and growth for the project group: "We have definitely learned how much time research takes! None of us could have imagined that it would take a full four years for the article to finally come together and find its place in a scientific journal. At times, the process has been hard and frustrating, but we are really happy that it worked out in the end!" 👩⚕️ The article was supervised and co-authored by Yousef Yavarian and Dan Dupont Hougaard 📝 Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/dHukpanq 👩💻 #ENT #Vestibular #Research #BPPV #MRC #AalborgUH

Young Researcher Award in Clinical Science: Highlight in the July 2024 ESSKA Times by Gian Andrea Lucidi Good long-term outcomes after ACL reconstruction with three different surgical techniques: A Prospective randomized clinical and radiographic Evaluation at a minimum of 20 Years Follow-Up "Different techniques and grafts are available to perform ACL reconstruction. There is no consensus on the optimal ACL reconstruction techniques, moreover, most of the studies are limited to a short or a mid-term follow-up which does not provide valuable information regarding the long-term knee function and the incidence of OA. In the recent literature, LET was associated with a reduced risk of graft failure at short term follow-up in high risk population, but there is constrasting evidence on the risk of lateral compartment over-constraint and subsequent lateral OA."....
