While #VentureCapital may not be the right source of funding for every #entrepreneur, it is important to the pace at which markets access solutions, because VCs provide essential financial resources that enable startups to scale quickly, innovate, and enter new markets. The challenge of access to VC funding is not an even problem. Since the inception of venture capital in the 1960s, the participation of women has been limited. The industry has remained mainly male dominated on both the investing and recipient side. Women are underrepresented in the venture capital ecosystem, only about 2% of venture capital funds are going to companies led exclusively by women, and companies founded by women of color receive only a fraction of a percentage point of that funding. #Access to financing remains the greatest enabler of economic prosperity, job creation and improvement in livelihoods. For many African entrepreneurs, venture capital remains the only catalytic funding option available and that is why it remains an important topic. Ensuring that a diverse group of people can #control, #access and #benefit from investment capital is imperative.

Excellent! An increase from 36 to 86 women led venture funds is a move in the right direction. Now, it will be worth tracking what % of these 86 new women led funds invest in women founders & how does that compare to male founders they invest from the fund? #women #womenentrepreneurs #womenvc #womeninbusiness #womenfunding

Reading a document from Ankh Impact Ventures this morning and here it is. Watch, from 2011 until 2023, the chart did not budge. Who is responsible? Aren't we all responsible? Do you feel responsible? Who can move the needle more in this system in your opinion? 1- Venture Capitalists (#VCs): Exert more efforts sourcing deals from #women. Raise awareness in your #investmentcommittees to evaluate opportunities based on merit regardless of the #gender of the founding team. Hire more women to your investment committees, they must have different perspectives and views about the investment opportunities presented. 2- #Institutionalinvestors: impose some gender-based #DEI in your #funds to guide your #moneymanagers to bring more diverse #PE and #VC portfolios from a gender point of view. 3- #Government funds, #NGOs: Fund more initiatives, #incubators, #accelerators, #entrepreneurship programs that will nurture the #culture of #tech, #startups, entrepreneurship in #women and feed the #ecosystem with larger and stronger #pool of women #entrepreneurs for the VC and PE community to select from. I think the most pressing voice I hear about this topic is Melinda French Gates. #women #investinwomen #fundinggap #womenentrepreneurs #womenvc #womeninvestors #DEIinvesting #DEImoney #equityinfunding #DEIVC #DEItech #DEIopportunities #DEIentrepreneurship

📢 IFC - International Finance Corporation just published the new case study "Scaling Equity: Lessons from accelerators supporting women-led startups in emerging markets". 👀 Their findings show that investing in gender-diverse companies boosts business outcomes. However, only 11% of startups with seed funding in emerging markets are led by women. #ScaleX, a program by IFC and We-Fi, bridges this gap by connecting accelerators and investors with women-led startups, providing early-stage risk capital. 🔗 Read more: https://lnkd.in/dDaixw5g

Mixed news from Pitchbook today on the state of VCs funding female-founded businesses. According to the report, while 2023 saw the third-highest year for invested capital, the trend continues downward from the high in 2021. However, companies with female and male co-founders did best, especially in the software and B2B sectors. It's puzzling to note that even though women-led companies return 68% more on capital, the funding numbers still don't add up. #scroobious #investments #funding #womeninbusiness https://lnkd.in/gTJt3p2Z
