I had the opportunity to speak at the National Seminar on Social Entrepreneurship, Sustainability, and Empowerment: Indian Experiences and Global Outreach at Christ University, Bangalore. During the session, I explored various aspects of social entrepreneurship, Ecology and The Environment. Here’s a quick recap: 🌿 Ecosystem Services and Social Impact: I was asked by Prof. Om Prakash to an interactive sessions so we began by discussing the concept of ecosystem services and how impactful community actions and organizations can be viewed as valuable services to society. 💼 Entrepreneurial Journey: I shared the story of running Bhava social venture in Alappuzha and the ecological impacts we aimed to achieve, highlighting the challenges and lessons learned, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic when we had pause operations. 🌱 The Polycrisis of Climate Change: Emphasized the multifaceted nature of climate change and why scalable social solutions are crucial for building resilience in various domains of: -Infrastructure Resilience -Biodiversity Resilience -Health Resilience -Financial Resilience -Food Systems Resilience 🛠 Case Studies: Talked about inspiring examples of successful social enterprises: Tsunamika Dolls and Chekutty: Supporting communities affected by floods and tsunamis. S4S Technologies : Reducing food waste through innovative drying technologies. Olio • Share More, Waste Less : Sustainable food waste reduction models. Green Worms : Waste management model And more. Based on my experience I also discussed the how sustainability most of the time comes as a co benefit of social enterprises, then touched on how rural enterprises need to leverage AI tools, how social enterprises can contribute towards circular economy, and the importance of storytelling in driving impact. Social entrepreneurship holds immense potential in addressing ecological challenges and building sustainable, resilient communities.
