Half of the timeframe set for the #EUFOOD2030 policy framework is over! The “Food 2030: green and resilient #foodsystems” conference marked the halfway point of the Food2030 strategy, the research and innovation policy framework launched by the European Commission in October 2016. The strategy includes four main goals: 1) nutrition for sustainable and healthy diets; 2) food systems supporting a healthy planet; 3) circularity and resource efficiency; and 4) innovation and empowering communities. During the conference, ICLEI, alongside other stakeholders, called for immediate action in two areas that embrace all 4 goals: - Healthy #schoolmeals and #foodeducation 🥗: Advocating for nutritious school meals, addressing child poverty, and promoting equal opportunities. - Sustainable #foodprocurement 🧑🌾: Supporting minimum standards, tackling diverse challenges to provide resilient and equitable food systems, all without increasing costs. If we are serious about ensuring everyone’s access to healthy, nutritious food and a clean environment, we must urge #EU decision-makers to step up ambitions after the 2024 #EUElections to regenerate our #FoodSystem. Europe requires: 📜 A clear and supportive policy mix, 🧭 A sense of direction with clear signals to all stakeholders, 💰 Robust frameworks supported by appropriate financial investments, 🤝 Consistent local involvement, 🔄 Incorporating feedback mechanisms across various phases of #agrifood transformation, 🌐 And continuous global conversations to stay on course and expedite the food system transformation.
