How can you change something if you can’t see the something that needs to change? Are you aware of your blind spots? Are you aware of your biases (conscious and unconscious) that create blind spots? Daily Shake Up No. 894 highlights a core truth regarding change – you can’t change something until you can see the thing that needs to change. Said positively, if you can see it you can change it. This was my topic at an entrepreneurial event last night in Orlando. The specific topic was some of the ways that women still don’t have a well-earned seat at the table of business. Part of my story related to attending an industry conference where a panel titled “The Future of [the Industry]” consisted of six white men and one African American man. No women, although a woman served as the moderator. When I asked the event organizer about the panel he responded, “I didn’t notice that.” Whether conscious or unconscious, we all have blinders on certain topics which are often the result of habit. We see what we’re used to seeing and normal tends to be what we’re used to seeing. So, we don’t notice the need for change because we don’t see it. But if we can’t see it (for whatever reason), we can’t change it. Leaders are willing to rethink their thinking, which allows them to see what they previously couldn’t see. And then comes the real leadership – taking action to change what you can now see! #SnowGlobeLeadership #NischwitzGroup #SnowGlobeLiving #Leadership #GenderEquity #WomenInBusiness #WomenEntrepreneurs #Bias #BlindSpots

Leadership & Negotiation Coach for Women of Color | Keynote Speaker, Writer & Content Creator | Ft. in CNBC, HuffPost, Teen Vogue, Fast Company | Youtuber @ReimaginingNadia 🇵🇭
How my business has evolved over the years reflects my personal growth and evolution as a leader and person. I appreciate that my feature last month in American Express's 'Business Class' section reflects what I value in my work as an entrepreneur: flexibility, curiosity, and alignment. I share some best practices of how you can weave your purpose into everything you do, and ways you can highlight the impact of your work with client testimonials and case studies. But what felt special was how the piece highlighted my move from Oakland to Oaxaca and its significance in the business world. ✈️🌎 📌 Highlights from the Feature: ✨ Nadia De Ala, founder of the career and leadership development company Real You Leadership, credits the growth of her business to its crystal-clear purpose – to close the intersectional leadership and wage gap for BIPOC women and femmes of color. This purpose, guiding every aspect of her work, is the foundation for everything she does. ✨ De Ala, who values flexibility in general, advises, “Allow your business purpose and mission to evolve as you grow and change.” Her own mission has shifted over the years, leading her to a recent significant life decision – to move from California’s Bay Area to Oaxaca, Mexico, where Real You Leadership will continue to evolve. ✨“Stay curious," she says, urging entrepreneurs to pay attention to what serves them and their business over time. “Don't be attached to anything that doesn't feel right anymore, or doesn't feel aligned with who you are and the purpose and impact that you want to make.” What I've learned in business and life: nothing is permanent, you get to change your mind, and growing your business in values-aligned ways is always the most sustainable and fulfilling path. Thanks, Cara Cannella, for reflecting the realness of my leadership and biz journey in such a short time together.
