Shout-out to San Diego for another great event and amazing turnout! 😁 We had over 50 people come to La Jolla yesterday for networking and a CE 🍽️program on pediatric atopic dermatitis, sponsored by Impact Education! Great to meet a number of new attendees as well. Thanks to Zachary Contreras who served as moderator, Drs. Eichenfield and Leibel as presenters and panelists, and Carolyn Szigethy and Michelle Guadalupe (from National Eczema Association) to round out the panel.

Melanoma Institute Australia is passionate about educating teens about sun safety and the dangers of melanoma, which is why we are excited to launch our 2024 SunSafe Student Ambassador Program. We're inviting secondary schools to join this program. Students will participate in a one day interactive workshop which covers melanoma, sun safety and presentation skills. Armed with this new knowledge and skills, students are then empowered to return to their schools with the ability to promote sun safety to their peers. “……When an unaccompanied child is released from federal custody there is very little data regarding their outcomes after their release. No significant evaluation has been conducted on the effectiveness of services supporting their integration. As the largest provider of these services, USCRI works to ensure that children are safe and that their physical, cognitive, social, and emotional needs are met so that they can thrive in their new communities. USCRI and its partners provided services to more than 25,000 children last year. USCRI partnered with Child Trends, the leading research organization in the U.S. focused solely on improving the lives of children and youth, to develop an evaluation plan to assess the effectiveness of USCRI’s Home Study and Post-Release Services for unaccompanied children. This webinar will explore the outcomes of the collaboration, lessons learned, and recommendations for broader practice to move toward the creation of an evidence-based national model for Home Study and Post-Release Services for unaccompanied children.”

Last year, USCRI partnered with Child Trends, the leading research organization in the U.S. focused solely on improving the lives of children and youth, to develop an evaluation plan to assess the effectiveness of USCRI’s Home Study and Post-Release Services for unaccompanied children. I am excited to share with you a recently published report summarizing our work together entitled, A Path to Evidence-Based Services for Unaccompanied Children. The brief discusses the outcomes of the collaboration, lessons learned, and recommendations for broader practice to move toward the creation of an evidence-based national model for Home Study and Post-Release Services for unaccompanied children. While crucial for low-income families, WIC's procurement practices may inadvertently drive up formula prices for others. Reform is needed to ensure market resilience and equitable access to infant nutrition. The Federal Trade Commission’s report on the infant formula market highlights how programs like WIC contribute to market concentration, posing risks of supply disruptions. We are thrilled to share the success of our recent Down Syndrome Awareness Session, held on 25th July 2024, featuring the team from KDSP - A Down Syndrome Organisation. The event was a wonderful opportunity to educate, inspire, and foster a more inclusive community at Artistic Milliners Highlights from the session include: Educational Insights-Our expert speakers provided valuable information on understanding Down syndrome, early intervention, and inclusive education. Inspiring Stories: We were moved by the personal stories of individuals with Down syndrome and their families, highlighting their achievements and challenges. Engaging Q&A- Participants had the chance to ask questions and engage in meaningful discussions with our panel of professionals and advocates. Resources Shared- Attendees received access to a variety of resources, including support networks and educational materials. A huge thank you to everyone who contributed to making this session a success, including AMERICAN EAGLE OUTFITTERS FOUNDATION, who's Global Grants program enabled KDSP to continue their vital mission to provide individuals with down syndrome, with the opportunity to lead independent and fulfilling lives. And of course, a big thank to the attendees! Your participation and enthusiasm are essential in promoting awareness and inclusion.

May is #NECawareness Month! We'd love to hear what you are doing to help raise awareness and funds so we can #preventNEC! We chose May to be NEC Awareness Month because mothers are essential to our work of advancing NEC research, education, and advocacy. We will only build a world without NEC by partnering with and elevating mothers. Mothers provide the most protective therapy against NEC—their milk. Science is essential to our vision of a world without NEC, but it takes an average of 17 years for research evidence to reach clinical practice. We chose the 17th of May because we cannot wait 17 years for today’s emerging NEC research to reach our babies in the NICU. We need to prevent NEC now. We need a world without NEC today. Our motto “from pain to power” recognizes the profound heartache that follows a NEC diagnosis. The pain caused by NEC often stays with us for a lifetime. It takes remarkable strength to channel our anguish into helping other families and driving our organization's mission. The NEC Society is working tirelessly to accelerate research, raise awareness, and build a world without NEC by keeping babies and families centered in everything we do. April is Cortical Visual Impairment (CVI) Literacy Awareness Month. CVI is a type of visual impairment that originates from the brain rather than the eye. The path to literacy looks different for each child with CVI. The pediatric low vision program at Clovernook Center supports teachers and families of children with CVI to help all children reach their fullest potential.
