The R5-R20/R5 ratio is calculated by dividing the peripheral airway resistance (between 5 and 20Hz) by the total airway resistance (5Hz) and expressed as a percentage. Previously values exceeding 20% have been considered abnormal (McDowell Immunol Allergy Clin North Am, 2019). On the same thread, the X5/AX ratio is computed by dividing low frequency reactance (5Hz) by the reactance area across all frequencies. To our knowledge, this reactance ratio has not been described in literature. Looking at conventional cut points for poor asthma control including ACQ≥1.5 and ≥2 exacerbations/yr in this study, we demonstrate good discriminative ability for R5-R20/R5 ≥19% and X5/AX <15% despite an overall high burden of disease. Oscillometry ratios might also have the advantage of less inter-device bias (Kuo Lung 2019) although more research is required to answer this interesting question.

Here is some case! Attached CT-scan shows a “young” osteoma of the right ethmoids. Patient complained about severe nasal congestion, nasal/postnasal drip. No allergy/ asthma episodes in the past. Paranasal sinus cavities, nasal passages are obturated with nasal polyps. Endoscopic removal of polyp tissue and comple osteoma removal was performed. No microdebrider was used.
