Just published! Delighted to share publication of this prospective clinical study demonstrating feasibility of remote monitoring as part of clinical care for ILD. This was a multi-centre trial conducted at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust , Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust , Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust using patientMpower remote monitoring technology for home assessment of spirometry and pulse oximetry. The "bang of the drum" of evidence supporting a #digitalhealth approach for ILD care gets louder and louder. This trial builds on previous evidence by demonstrating the feasibility of home monitoring using patientMpower technology when integrated into an ILD clinical care service. It's fantastic to see such high patient engagement, even with daily monitoring frequency, and high patient desire to continue self-monitoring. Two New Studies by UT Experts Unveil Key Insights into Long COVID Two new studies out of UT Health Austin’s Post-COVID-19 Program are revealing significant insights into Long COVID, including who is affected, the cluster of symptoms they experience and how their lives are impacted. AUSTIN, Texas — Healthcare providers are learning critical new information to help improve care for patients with Long COVID, thanks to a pair of recent studies out of the Post-COVID-19 Program at UT Health Austin, the clinical practice of Dell Medical School at The University of Texas at Austin. Over the past several months, UT researchers have edged closer to defining the pattern of symptoms it generates and how it affects patients, as well as developing methods to differentiate patients suffering from Long COVID versus other conditions. While consensus around the clinical definition is evolving, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) defines Long COVID as symptoms and conditions of COVID-19 that linger for weeks, months or even years after a person’s initial infection. Even people who had no symptoms when they were infected can develop symptoms later. “These research efforts are instrumental for both clinicians and health systems in grasping the complexities of Long COVID, and as part of providing the highest possible care for patients,” said W. Michael Brode, M.D., medical director of the Post-COVID-19 Program. The ON-SCENE study is a groundbreaking national multi-centre pre-hospital ECPR (extracorporeal cardiopulmonary resuscitation) stepped wedge study. It aims to evaluate the effectiveness of ECPR in improving survival rates for patients who suffer from cardiac arrest outside of a hospital setting. The Design and Rationale of the ON-SCENE Study The study will be conducted in 10 different regions in the Netherlands, with each region participating for a period of 6 months. It involves a total of 250 patients who suffer from cardiac arrest outside of a hospital setting. Half of the patients will receive the current standard of care, while the other half will receive ECPR in addition to the standard care. The Importance of the ON-SCENE Study The results of the ON-SCENE study have the potential to significantly impact the way we approach cardiac arrest in the pre-hospital setting. If the study shows that ECPR is effective in improving survival rates, it could lead to a change in protocols and guidelines for emergency medical services (EMS) around the world. Challenges and Limitations One of the main challenges is the logistics of implementing ECPR in the pre-hospital setting. Additionally, the study is limited to patients who suffer from cardiac arrest due to a shockable rhythm, which may not be representative of all cases of cardiac arrest. Conclusion The ON-SCENE study is a groundbreaking clinical trial that has the potential to change the way we approach cardiac arrest in the pre-hospital setting. Delighted with the announcement from Federal Minister for Health and Aged Care Hon Mark Butler with the significant investment in Health and Medical Research In Australia including: $1.4b for new research via the Medical Research Future Fund (MRFF): A new 10-Year Low Survival Cancers Mission A new 10-Year Reducing Health Inequities Mission $411m to support 229 researchers to tackle the nation’s greatest health challenges, through the NHMRC. $62m to support 26 clinical trials from around Australia, through the MRFF. $18.8m to progress the National One Stop Shop for clinical trials and health research. Congratulations to the 229 researchers receiving grants from the NHMRC and we celebrate the investment in 26 clincial trials around Australia. The commitment to progressing the National One Stop Shop for clinical trials will help the 14 Collaborative Clinical Trials organisations like ANZUP Cancer Trials Group Limited streamline clinical trials via a single national platform and set of regulations and improve the lives of people affected by Below the Belt Cancers. Nearly 35,000 people in Australia and over 5,500 people in New Zealand are diagnosed by a Below the Belt cancer (kidney, bladder, prostate, testicular and penile) every year. ANZUP’s mission is to improve the lives of all people affected by Below the Belt Cancers through practice-changing multidisciplinary collaborative clinical trials.

The Massachusetts Health Policy Commission (HPC) Board of Commissioners elected to conduct a cost and market impact review of the proposed clinical affiliation between Dana Farber Cancer Institute (DFCI), Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC), and Harvard Medical Faculty Physicians (HMFP) at BIDMC. Under the proposed transaction, DFCI would form a new clinical affiliation with BIDMC and HMFP that would replace its longstanding collaboration with Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH). DFCI would construct a new DFCI hospital facility of over 300 beds adjacent to BIDMC and the parties would collaborate, through clinical affiliation agreements and joint ventures, to provide adult cancer services. The CMIR is a comprehensive, data-driven review that will assess the impact of the proposed clinical affiliation on costs and the Commonwealth’s ability to meet the health care cost growth benchmark, market functioning, quality of care, and health equity and access for consumers. The outcome of this process will be a public report detailing the HPC’s findings. “We look forward to working with Dana Farber and Beth Israel to understand and assess this proposal’s impact on health care cost, quality, and access for patients and to provide that assessment to other state agencies and the public,” said Deborah Devaux, HPC Board Chair. Recently, Peter Monteleone, MD, interventional cardiologist at Ascension Health, presented findings as the principal investigator of a new peer-reviewed REAL-PE study showing that patients receiving Boston Scientific's EKOS endovascular system had lower rates of adverse events, including statistically significant lower rates of major bleeding within seven days of their procedure, compared to another common pulmonary embolism treatment. The peer-reviewed study cites Truveta Data, which offers real-time EHR data from more than 30 US health systems, to help understand clinical practices and outcomes related to PE. The pandemic necessitated adjustments in health services, including the suspension of elective surgeries like bariatric procedures, due to increased risks for patients. 🔬 Results: Our analysis reveals a notable reduction in bariatric surgeries during 2020, with a decrease of 14.1% compared to 2019. "A cluster-randomized controlled trial of a nurse-led artificial intelligence assisted prevention and management for delirium (AI-AntiDelirium) on delirium in intensive care unit: Study protocol." Plos one 19, no. 2 (2024): e0298793. Summary: Background: - Delirium is common in ICU patients and worsens their health outcomes. - Following the PADIS guidelines ("ABCDEF bundle") is important for preventing delirium, but adherence is low in practice. - AI-AntiDelirium, an AI-assisted tool, was developed to help nurses prevent and manage delirium. - A pilot study showed positive results for using AI-AntiDelirium in preventing delirium and improving patient outcomes. Methods: - A large-scale clinical trial will assess the impact of AI-AntiDelirium on ICU delirium. - Six ICUs in two hospitals will be randomly assigned to use AI-AntiDelirium or follow the PADIS guidelines. - Over 1450 patients aged 50+ will be included from each group. - The study will measure various outcomes, including: Incidence of ICU delirium Duration of delirium Length of ICU and hospital stay Mortality rates in ICU and hospital Patient cognitive function and daily living activities Nurse adherence to the ABCDEF bundle Discussion: - This trial aims to evaluate if AI-AntiDelirium effectively reduces delirium and improves outcomes while increasing adherence to guidelines. - If successful, it could significantly improve ICU delirium management in research and practice.
