Terrestrial Radio for me is a mental getaway at times and I have always appreciated the many local Professionals who bring this service and medium to thousands around them each day. Miles, Senior Director, Live Event Workflows - NBC Sports & Olympics - Mario Reis, Director - Olympic Broadcasting Services Moderator: - Ken Kerschbaumer, Editorial Director - SVG Europe During the session, the OBS representative explained how an OB van is entirely virtualized, while the BeIN representative, with a more traditional setup, expressed no interest in moving to ST 2110 or the cloud. He described a conservative approach, noting that his headend needs to operate daily under various constraints, unlike a one-off event. This is a good summary of where our industry stands in terms of new technology adoption, with both technological and financial limitations. This week the #DNC came to the great city of Chicago, which has hosted more national political conventions (26) than any other city in the US. The technology behind the scenes to pull it off is massive and a key part of this includes networking and connectivity. As a real-world example, broadcasters on-site are benefiting from a private cellular network using #CBRS and some innovative technology from LiveU for live video broadcasting across the convention floor. It’s no surprise that digitally-native Gen Z audiences consume 67% of content on their mobile. However, 30% of Gen Z’ers consume all of their sports content on handheld devices.
