Love this! Take a look at the dashboard for Continuum of Work-Based Learning Programs and check out the number of students who were enrolled in a K-12 CTE Practicum in 2022-2023 in WDA 4. https://www.facted.org/wbl The number seems lower than I expected. Thank you Mac Mckeever. Superb interview Charlie (Charlotte) Brown. Mac’s prescription for UK health and care: 1. Shift resources into prevention, community care and primary care (left shift hospital spend). 2. Push accountability downstream - let’s hold our leaders accountable rather than leaders holding followers accountable… 3. Selfless employment - trust people and take off their restraints; encourage entrepreneurship and forgive failure when attempting something different goes awry… I would add: 4. increase minimum wage for care workers, coaching & development support for care workers with career pathway and pay bands; 5. invest in mental health services to build capacity in all areas for dementia and inpatient crisis and psychosis care… 6. Move ownership and responsibility of all care and health to local authorities and regional mayors and allow increases in local (council and business) taxes to top up insufficient central funding from Whitehall (we will all have to stump up the cash for good local services). #nhs #coaching #socialcare #localgovernment

It was a pleasure to interview Mac Mckeever this week for the latest Staff College ‘In Conversations with…’. Reflecting on a career culminating as the CEO of the Mid and South Essex Integrated Care Board, and spanning a wide variety of senior leadership roles across the public sector over five decades, Mac shared some of the highlights - and disasters - of his career. Shared with Mac’s characteristic frankness and good humour, there are lots of useful nuggets of wisdom for those in leadership roles now or who aspire to be. Responding to questions posed by Staff College members, Mac shared the advice he wishes he'd had earlier in his career, the changes of the operating environment for leaders he’s seen over the years and the skills leaders need for today, and the key changes he'd like to see in the way the health and social care are managed over the coming five years.
