So here's your weekly post about private sector jobs for crime analysts. I've included my thoughts on each one- maybe in the future I'll do one of these posts about job postings that I think all look terrible...I might have to switch to Facebook for that. American Express- Sr. Special Agent of Cyber Crime Investigations. This job title reads like it'd skew towards sworn jobs, but Cyber Crime investigations inherently involve a lot of data analysis. I hate seeing salary ranges this wide (80k-155) but it indicates a way higher ladder than most analysts in law enforcement get to climb. https://lnkd.in/eVSzyuuU FS-ISAC, Cyber Crime and Fraud Analyst - I don't know that I've ever seen a job title that combines both cyber crime and fraud. Its a good opportunity to get experience in both realms I guess. ITs fully remote and this company is listed as a non-profit on glassdoor.com, so PSLF might be an option. https://lnkd.in/eA6NgdGy Amazon, Risk Analyst Counterfeit Crime Unit- For someone who really enjoys OSINT activities and has some data analysis skills, this looks like a sweet opportunity to work for a FAANG employer. It also looks super flexible with working location. https://lnkd.in/e9tR8z57 ESRI, Solution Engineer (Local Gov)- Don't let the word "Engineer" scare you off here. I got my private sector start with a very similar title, with no engineering experience or education. If you're a die-hard ESRI fanatic who has made cool products inside a PD, you're probably a competitive applicant. https://lnkd.in/eS4NdfZJ

I once managed a team of cybersecurity analysts. When we needed to grow the team, I ACCIDENTALLY ran a social experiment. The day to day job was a mix of threat analysis and data analysis. In the first week, I posted the job as “Data Analyst at Cybersecurity Company”. In the second week, I posted the job as “Security Analyst”. Other than the title, everything else was identical in the two posts. In the first week, about 50% of the applicants were women. In the second week, less than 10% of the applicants were women. NOTHING WAS DIFFERENT BETWEEN THE TWO JOB POSTINGS OTHER THAN THE TITLE. What would you do as the hiring manager?

Focussing just on hard skills when hiring is a load of BS. We’ve gotten into this horrible habit. -List a load of acronyms. -Mention a few trending buzzwords. And ta-da you’ve got yourself the perfect CISO job description. Yeah…sure. Where’s the due diligence? Where’s what really matters? The leadership The execution The influence The vision I’ve never heard a CISO describe themselves as: “A PKI, GDPR, SIEM expert, with ISO, NIST, SOC & some DDoS” We need to do better. Oh and we’re only 4 days into 2024 and the $120k CISO jobs are back and in full force. Be safe out there folks! --- Repost ♻️ to help the community! Follow me & hit the 🔔 icon

What do deepfakes have to do with hiring? In 2022 an FBI alert warned of “an increase in complaints reporting the use of deepfakes and stolen Personally Identifiable Information (PII) to apply for a variety of remote work and work-at-home positions.” And why might people be doing this? I mean, other than the obvious – namely, that some folks clearly weren’t held enough as babies? In essence, they are doing it in order to be allowed employee-level access to an organization’s proprietary information and digital networks. At a time when a high proportion of jobs are still carried out (and interviewed for) on a remote basis, it’s entirely possible to use deepfakes to gain the full privileges of an employee without ever setting foot inside an office or interacting in person with a colleague. What are your thoughts on watching out for this unexpected security risk? #hiring #recruiting #psp

What do you think about this meme? 1. What are your thoughts on the portrayal of companies as data collectors rather than job providers in the meme video? 2. Do you believe there's truth to the notion that some companies prioritize data collection over actual hiring? 3. How can job seekers navigate the balance between sharing their data online and ensuring they're not being exploited by companies? 4. Have you encountered situations where companies seemed more focused on data collection rather than hiring? How did you handle it? 5. In your opinion, what steps can companies take to demonstrate genuine interest in hiring, rather than just gathering data? LinkedIn #hiring #data #cybersecurity
