Illinois Department of Human Services’ Post

The Office of Firearm Violence Prevention (OFVP)—housed within IDHS—is hard at work addressing the statewide public health emergency that is firearm violence. One way is by engaging and learning from the communities most impacted by gun violence. In that spirit, IDHS Secretary Designate Dulce Maria Quintero and Quiwana Bell, OFVP Assistant Secretary Designate, recently met with the Institute for Nonviolence Chicago to hear from street outreach teams about ways that OFVP can better assist Chicago communities. The street outreach teams shared their experiences and ideas about proactive solutions that prevent gun violence and promote community safety. We are grateful to them for sharing their mission and insights.
