A human rights-based approach is essential to promote awareness and advocacy. To empower marginalized groups, Civil Society and human rights bodies must identify and educate them on their rights and help them claim them. For persons with disabilities and LGBTQIA+ individuals, community awareness is crucial as they face exclusion and discrimination in their communities, including in education, employment, and healthcare. These marginalized groups also face barriers to accessing formal financial services such as banking, savings accounts, and credit. Adequate financing for disability-relevant services and support is critical to ensure that these individuals have an equal opportunity to participate in society. Let's continue working towards a world where everyone's rights are respected and protected. #HumanRights #Equality #DiversityandInclusion

Help! Calling my colleagues from the field of inclusion and advocacy. How are we dealing with problematic labelling such as ‘special educational needs’? As a disabled woman of colour I continue to be determined in unlearning the ableism I have been conditioned with throughout my life. As a professional within the disability and inclusion field I am working at ensuring my content and delivery does not perpetuate ideology that my community have highlighted as harmful. And yet….. I am really struggling to communicate without using these established terms when it comes to formal communication in bid writing for example, cooperate spaces, educational establishments, local authorities etc. Similar to the BAME label. Despite much protest and dialogue explaining how problematic the term is and it’s lack of representation, there hasn’t been an alternative provided and many organisations continue to use it. So, my question is, how do we move away from terms like ‘special educational needs’ and ‘BAME’ still ensure people know what we are talking about? Especially in spaces where this work is very new and the concept of inclusion is emerging. #inclusion #ableism #labeling #ProfessionalDevelopment

Child labor is a major human rights concern, with an estimated 152 million young people worldwide engaged in this practice. The majority of these incidents occur in the Majority World. We must take action to end child labor and ensure that all children have the opportunity to receive an education and pursue their dreams. Due to inequities and family rejection, trans, nonbinary, and gender diverse (TNGD) youth are over-represented in juvenile legal, child welfare, and youth homelessness systems. They face significant barriers to support, care, and affirmation, heightening risks to their health and well-being. Creating affirming, culturally responsive, and safe environments is crucial for the well-being of TNGD youth, who call for community services that promote family health, increase acceptance, and keep youth from entering out-of-home systems. Last week, we attended the release event for the upcoming Safe Havens II—a report centering the voices of seven young people with lived experience in out-of-home systems and lifting up their recommendations for how systems can better affirm and support TNGD youth. The report is co-authored with our partners at Unicorn Solutions LLC, Lambda Legal, and the Center for the Study of Social Policy. Dominique Jackson joined us to moderate a panel, leading a discussion on how our youth contributors have been impacted by state systems and anti-LGBTQ+ laws, and helping to shed light on what needs to change. TNGD youth are speaking up, and they deserve to be heard. During Foster Awareness Month and every month, we must amplify their voices, actively combat harmful policies, and prioritize their health and well-being. We can all play a role in advocating for accountability, affirmation, and support. Listen to their voices: https://lnkd.in/eAiJGyiS

Wednesday Blog, - Working in communities means being inclusive of children and young people "All this is to say that if we are truly being inclusive of marginalised and vulnerable groups, including women, people with disabilities, young people, and people with diverse SOGIESC, we need to be inclusive of their family and community life. We need to have honest co-design conversations about what needs the groups have beyond the individual to the family and community and how we can accommodate those needs to ensure that we don’t exclude people from our projects. It might even add layers of insight and community engagement beyond our wildest expectations." #internationaldevelopment #GEDSI #Socialinclusion #childprotection #decolonisation https://lnkd.in/g9hf4tRp
