CEO. Keynote Speaker. Healthcare System Consultant. Public Health Leader. Equity Practitioner. Business Strategist. Writer. Coach. #GetUncomfortable @natalie4health
I’m happy to share “Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion in Public Health: Creating a Healthier Society.” (DELPH Magazine, Issue 3). While writing this, it felt like common sense because it’s my analysis for the world of public health—one that I have developed over three decades. Traveling the country, working in communities, and speaking to audiences, I have been reminded that this connection between EDI/DEI and health equity is still new to many people. While the universe of EDI/DEI is on fire and is now the target of the same people who committed to destroy CRT, those of us working in #publichealth and #healthcare know that as I say here, “When EDI is present and active, health equity becomes possible.” While we need to be more thoughtful, strategic, and INCLUSIVE in our EDI approaches and narrative, we cannot abandon EDI if we truly believe that all people deserve fair opportunities to achieve their best possible health. “Fair” is not what you think it is or what I think it is. Fair is whatever is necessary within the confines of policies and resources—to get a person, family, community, or population to their best possible outcome. That’s what is fair. If the confines of current policies and resources don’t allow for the outcomes we seek and deserve—it’s time to #getuncomfortable and create changes that make the impossible, possible—and better yet…probable. Many thanks to @ASTHO and #MorehouseSchoolofMedicine for engaging me to serve on the #DELPH advisory group. So important
A few weeks ago, I had the privilege of sitting down with Alexis Alemán and Irvin Garcia, two first generation medical school students. We discussed a number of topics, including health equity, access to care for the Latino community, and why representation matters in our health care system. The Biden-Harris Administration and HHS are rolling up our sleeves, getting our hands dirty, and fighting tooth and nail to ensure that every member of our immigrant family gets the care and support they deserve. 🎧 Watch below to hear more of our conversation! https://bit.ly/4dzsk6t #FoosInMedicine

I am excited for the release of the annual CHCF policy poll. One interesting finding is perception on health equity...Californians report mixed views on progress toward racial equity in health care. Although 43% of Californians overall believe the state has made “a great deal of” or “some” progress in achieving racial and ethnic equity in the health care system in recent years, 44% of Black Californians and 33% of Latino/x Californians say the state has made “only a little progress” or “no progress at all.” https://lnkd.in/gtP6Umds
