But it needs to be on your to-do list! Nominating yourself for awards isn't just about recognition—it's a strategic move for thought leadership. It showcases your brand, expertise, and team. Don't let modesty hold you back. Step into the spotlight! There are numerous awards out there for industries that may not even be on our radar. For instance, did you know there's an award/contest out there for farm dogs? Yes. The 2025 Farm Bureau Farm Dog of the Year contest, supported by Nestlé Purina PetCare, celebrates farm dogs and the many ways they support farmers and ranchers. And let's not forget all of the 30 in their 30s and 40 Under 40 awards nationwide. There are plenty of opportunities to share your achievements and milestones. So what's holding you back? 🟢"DEI is a High-Performance Imperative"🟢 Dr. Marcia Goddard shared this powerful message while facilitating our Global Roundtable yesterday on the importance of DEI for SHV's Family of Companies, as part of the group's DEI week. It was awesome to see over 800 colleagues engage in the conversation from across the globe! 👏👏 - and this demonstrated the strategic importance of DEI for SHV companies. The panel discussion was genuinely inspiring; hearing from colleagues with such diverse voices talk candidly about their unique experiences. There were so many insights, but the session left me with some key takeaways: ▶️ It is not hard to find diverse talent. The challenge lies in retaining talent, not least because having to navigate a space that doesn't feel secure can be exhausting for individuals ▶️ Establishing focused resource groups within organisations is crucial to provide support and advocacy. Mentoring and role models are essential for creating and maintaining an inclusive workplace ▶️ Empathy is a critical cornerstone of inclusion and realising organisational DEI ▶️ DEI isn't a charitable cause - it actively drives organisational success. However, having diversity without inclusion leads to lower performance. One of our panellists Carla Hubbard summed it up perfectly; that's like "putting water into a cup with holes in it" 💡 Loved this brilliant analogy! I'm grateful for Carla sharing this as part of telling us of her experiences as a black woman, of often being "the other in a world of sameness." Many women working in STEM will relate to this feeling. What's the call to action? ❗️ Many organisations espouse the right ideas but we need to be intentional in following through with them ❗️Organisations need to avoid "equity fatigue" - this means going beyond box-ticking exercises and committing to practical steps for progress This was a timely reminder that observing "special" days and weeks on DEI shouldn't be the only time we focus on it - it must be continual, everyday practice to drive change. 🏆 While we celebrate progress, there's no room for complacency, as there is still a lot of work to do! 🚀
