🌱 HOW WE CONTRIBUTE TO SUSTAINABLE REFORESTATION IN THE AMAZONIA REGION 🌱 Large areas in the Amazon region of Colombia have been transformed from native grasslands and/or gallery forest into low-productivity pasturelands for cattle or agricultural activities, leading to land degradation and soil erosion. A new afforestation and reforestation project, Amazonia Nativa, is set to revert the development and plant an area of up to 7,500 hectares with native species in the form of hard wood and acai palms. Together with the Dutch Development Finance Institution, FMO, IFU is co-financing the first phase of the project of 550 hectares that aims to prove the project design concept and be ready for the scale-up. “The Amazonia Nativa project is very interesting and fits well with IFU’s aspiration to support climate action and greening the economy. We hope to see it evolve and become at project that can be commercialised and attract other investors as well,” said Jesper Kaspersen, Senior Investment Manager in IFU. At Campo Capital S.A.S., we're leading on field a transformative project to restore 7,500 hectares of degraded Amazonian lands. By planting native hardwoods and acai palms, Campo Capital and ACT Group aim to sequester a considerable amount of carbon and boost biodiversity. Thanks to the support of IFU, FMO - Dutch entrepreneurial development bank, we're beginning with 550 hectares and are committed to securing a sustainable future for the region. #Sustainability #Afforestation #Reforestation #AmazonRestoration #Biodiversity #ClimateAction #CarbonSequestration #NativeSpecies #SustainableForestry #JaguarCorridor #ColombianAmazon #EnvironmentalImpact

"𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗮𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗵𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗶𝗳 𝗻𝗼 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄𝘀 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺" That’s how I kicked off my presentation last week during the 2nd GOBEYOND plenary meeting in Setúbal, Portugal. 🌍 Over three inspiring days, we gathered to discuss progress, share insights, and plan the future of this ambitious project. DRAXIS Environmental S.A. has an important role in the project, and among others, the lead of the #Impact Creation efforts. This includes driving the project's communication and dissemination—from crafting its visual identity to designing effective communication strategies. It’s an exciting part of my work, and I was thrilled to share our #progress with the partners! 𝗦𝗼, 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲𝘀 𝗚𝗢𝗕𝗘𝗬𝗢𝗡𝗗 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗼𝘂𝘁? 🔹 It’s building an Early Warning System for geo and weather hazards like fires, floods, earthquakes, and droughts. 🔹 It follows a Multi-Risk, Impact-based approach, ensuring a comprehensive response to different challenges. 🔹 A strong consortium of experts from diverse fields is driving innovation and achieving remarkable results. For #Greece, GOBEYOND is particularly relevant. With a focus on the hazards faced in #Attica, the project involves key partners like the Civil Protection Authority of Attica, the Hellenic Rescue Team, and the National Observatory of Athens. In episode 5, I journey through the diverse landscapes of Ecuador, highlighting the country's cultural and natural richness. The episode discusses Ecuador's varied geography, including its coast, highlands, Amazon, and the Galapagos Islands. It emphasizes the country's biodiversity, with a significant portion of the world's animal species. The narrative explores the connection between people, nature, and health, particularly focusing on the challenges rural communities face, such as the spread of Chagas disease. Also discusses the impact of environmental changes caused by deforestation, overfishing, urban expansion, destructive aquaculture and climate change have on health. Narrative highlights the resilience of people and their adaptation to the changing environment. Urges seeking understanding of local culture and customs as the key to control the spread of diseases, such as Chagas disease. Road building impacts #springs and poses a threat to the #WaterSecurity of local communities. We are working with partners to address these threats through a pilot project in Dhankuta district, #Nepal, combining guidelines for green roads published by MetaMeta Research and the Department of Local Infrastructure (DoLI) with our tested six-step spring revival protocol. For more, please read this blog by our colleague Sanjeev Bhuchar and Saroj Yakami from MetaMeta: https://lnkd.in/eDUGiGTi
💬 “Roads affect how water flows, but water also affects roads. By reimagining roads as tools for landscape improvement we can manage water supplies and increase the lifespan of roads.” We spoke with Sanjeev Bhuchar and Saroj Yakami, both part of a consortium currently conducting an innovative pilot project to improve water security in Nepal’s Dhankuta district. The project is funded by Partners for Water and aims to enhance natural springs while at the same time improving the rapidly expanding local road infrastructure. Get inspired by their inclusive and innovative approach! Discover the ins and outs of the project through the link below. ➡️ https://lnkd.in/eDUGiGTi Consortium: MetaMeta, FutureWater International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development This project is funded by the Partners for Water programme 2022 – 2027 and is part of the Innovation in Progress Series. 🚀 #innovationinprogress #partnersforwater #watermanagement #innovation #Nepal #socialinclusion Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO) | Partner in Sustainable Development

* * * NEW Video release * * * Iceland LII - Documenting Lauffellsmýrar Wetlands │ Part 148 * * * To be able to live in this World, We need Wetlands * * * Laufellsmýrar is an area designated on the natural heritage register due to terrestrial ecosystems. There are the most extensive rime bogs in the country, but rime bogs are a rare ecosystem. Rim marshes are characterized by a distinct pattern of long rims and pre-wet bay depressions and ponds in between that lie across or slightly in a curve from the slope of the land. Peatland and peatland vegetation grows on ridges, while bay vegetation grows in depressions. Rimamyrar are rather fertile and their bird life is considered to be very rich. The area covers about 55.9km2 Laufellsmyrar lies at an altitude of almost 500 m above sea level on a gently sloping hump that descends to the southwest and west. To the south and east of the marshes, the land rises. Hellisá falls through the area and to Skaftár south of Leiðólfsfell. The largest marshes are south of Hellisár, but there are also large swathes north of the river to the Skaftáreldhrauni. The landscape suggests that the lava flowed over parts of the marshes and cut them, but to the west of the lava there are similar marshes in Hrossatungur and Stórakrók. Laufellsmyr are untouched by construction, Lakavegur runs above and along their eastern edge. Sheep graze on Lauffellsmýr in the summer, as elsewhere on Síðumnaafrétt. The marshes used to be hayed in years of grass loss. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - https://lnkd.in/gNqJ3TdP
