During the first Summit for Democracy in December 2021, President Biden launched The Presidential Initiative for Democratic Renewal (PIDR), a whole of U.S. Government landmark set of policy and foreign assistance initiatives that modernize and multilateralize U.S. efforts to bolster democracy and defend human rights globally. PIDR focuses on catalyzing, diversifying, and sustaining global partnerships and expanding programming to defend democracies from complex, as well as emerging challenges. It also represents a significant, targeted expansion of the U.S. Government efforts to defend, sustain, and grow democratic resilience with likeminded governmental and non-governmental partners. https://lnkd.in/gwa87WrM

Only by working together, the major challenges facing Europe can be effectively solved and Europe’s geopolitical stance secured.>> #EU #Europe #manifesto #Buti #nationbalism #challenges #geopolitics #integration #sovereignty #Euronews #solidarity #responsibility #future

The UN yesterday adopted a Pact for the Future that was negotiated for nearly two years based on consensus. In an opinion piece republished on our blog, the Permanent Observer of the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance at the UN, Annika Silva-Leander, takes a look at the document from the perspective of democracy. She concludes: "The Pact for the Future has the potential to reshape global governance and address pressing global challenges, but it fails to emphasize support of democratic institutions, inclusive governance, and civil liberties. Without addressing the rise of authoritarianism and the erosion of democratic systems, the Pact may fall short in achieving sustainable peace, security, and development. To build a more just and stable world for future generations, the future of democracy should have been prioritized."
