I attended 3 hiring events yesterday, one virtual and 2 in person. I noticed several companies had representatives there, but no interviews were conducted onsite. So, I stopped at a couple of tables to ask, and the response was: "That's how we do it now. If you have a question about a position, you found online, we can answer that but that's about it." So, I asked questions about the position I came to the event to interview for. Got a few helpful tips when applying online for positions so I did walk away with something. Got back home and attended a virtual hiring fair: SAME THING!! No interviews!! I have questions for recruiters: -Is this the new normal? -Why would a company be present for a hiring event if no one is getting hired? -Is this a new weeding-out process?

Today, I interviewed four people for the open position at our firm. It was the first time I ever conducted interviews. Reflecting on this experience, here are some tips for interviewees looking to land their first job after college. 1️⃣ Understand the company and the role you are applying - the company's mission/vision & the types of clients they serve. 2️⃣ Have 2-3 pre-thought ideas as to what makes you unique and an asset to the firm. 3️⃣ Articulate the value of your past experiences and your biggest takeaways/learning experiences. How they can help you and the company moving forward. 4️⃣ Express why you want the position and how it aligns with your life goals. Other professionals, any tips for our soon-to-be graduates? 🤔🎓 #Hiring #ClassOf2024 #Interviews

Conducted My First Interview! 🎉 Today marks an exciting milestone in my career—I conducted my very first interview! It was a great learning experience to be on the other side of the table, assessing skills, understanding different perspectives, and engaging with talented individuals. This opportunity has deepened my appreciation for the hiring process and the importance of identifying not just the right skills, but also the right attitude and cultural fit for the team. #FirstInterview #CareerMilestone #LearningAndGrowth #Hiring

The job market is an abosulte joke right now. I’ve been looking for 6+ months for a job. Over 1,000 applications, 7 denials, 20 interviews, and the rest are nothing. Four of the interviews were almost offers that are pulled away by companies suddenly not having funding or closing the position at the last second. That leads me to now. I’ve never seen anything like this and it scares me. Companies are currently hitting record profits and yet it’s on the back of the employees who got them there. It’s time for change. #tech #techcareer #swe #softwaredeveloper #job #change

If a candidate makes it through 3 rounds of interviews but isn't selected - Pick up the phone to break the news. A generic rejection email just doesn't do justice to the time they've put in. It's only fair to tell them directly. Plus, offering some helpful feedback can make a big difference. It's minimal effort but adds a human touch to the hiring process. #hiring #igbsearch #igblifo #jobs #ich

Reflection on how job seeking has evolved over the years. In the 90's and early 2000's, applying for a position, going through two rounds of interviews, and getting hired all in one week was the norm, for me. It is simultaneously interesting and disheartening to see how the process has now become more prolonged and challenging despite advancements in knowledge and technology aimed at streamlining operations. #JobSeeking #Evolution #Technology #Reflection

Cheers to my 3rd week at The Futurum Group! During my 7 weeks of #unemployment I applied to 225 jobs, interviewed for 17 - from recruiter calls through final round interviews. Most ghosted, some gave feedback as to why they were moving on (#recruiters, do this!), some took 3-5 weeks to get to the final round, and only ONE showed me how urgently they needed someone. Can you guess which? 😏 I'm fortunate my unemployment lasted as short as it did, but it doesn't mean I didn't learn a TON about the #interview process. Ask questions, don't be afraid to interview companies back, and make sure you do your research. This is some place you'll be for years to come.
