The last few days we were priviliged to spent some time together with friends and colleagues from all over the world, joining us in the beautiful historic setting of Anargyrios & Korgialenios School of Spetses to present and participate in the first “Workshop on AI in Oncology: applications & challenges”. We interacted and learned from AI experts, delved into the exciting new world of AI possibilities and dynamic potentials in oncology, laughed and shared amazing moments in Spetses, the island of unique energy, cherished and celebrated old friendships and fostered new ones, enjoyed a few unforgettable days of togetherness. And also organised and followed our I3LUNG annual meeting, celebrating two years of working among this amazing dedicated team from all over the globe- thank you all for coming, each one has and is making an incredible difference and together we rock! Safe travels back home to everyone and see you all next year! Today, on #WorldMentalHealthDay, the #I3LUNG project emphasizes the importance of mental health. Since the project's inception, we have consistently focused on patient well-being, recognizing mental health as a vital aspect of our research. #I3LUNG is developing an #AI-based program that supports patients in treatment decision-making and enhances communication with their doctors, helping to reduce some of the emotional stress that comes with a lung cancer diagnosis. The #ESMO24 Women for Oncology Committee has been actively monitoring the representation of female oncologists in leadership roles since 2015. Despite progress in some areas, the representation of women in oncology leadership remains low, particularly at congresses, on society boards, and as leading authors in publications. Helena Linardou, Metropolitan Hospital partner, will dive deeper in findings from this work on Monday, 16 September at 14:45 during the Policy and preventive strategies Mini Oral session at ESMO - European Society for Medical Oncology. On Thursday 12th, we hosted an informative breakfast as part of our presence at ESMO - European Society for Medical Oncology titled: “10 Years from Now… The Future of Breast and Lung Cancer: Reflections and Advances.” We were joined by experts including Dr. Antonio Llombart Cussac from MEDSIR, Alfonso Aguarón from Lung Cancer Europe, Maria Jose Martínez Serrano Novartis España, and Pilar Fernández Pascual from Asociación Española Cáncer de Mama Metastásico. The discussion focused on advances in oncology and future challenges, particularly the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in research and treatment. In the second part, Gustavo Entrala from LLYC and Arsela Prelaj from Fondazione IRCCS Istituto Nazionale dei Tumori di Milano and PI of the I3LUNG project led a workshop on AI’s impact on personalized medicine, highlighting the #I3LUNG study and its role in lung cancer diagnosis, screening, psychological support, and decision-making. ➡️ 10 years from now - The future of breast and lung cancer: reflections after a decade of research. This was the theme of an insightful gathering organized by MEDSIR this morning, where Dr. Arsela Prelaj and Alfonso Aguarón were invited to share their expertise. Alfonso, our partner from Lung Cancer Europe, gave the point of view from a patient perspective and Arsela from Fondazione IRCCS Istituto Nazionale dei Tumori di Milano explained to the audience how AI was applied in medicine, in particulary in our project #I3LUNG. Joined by other leading oncology experts, including Dr. Antonio Llombart Cussac (Senior Scientific Lead at MEDSIR), Maria Jose Martinez Serrano (Medical Head of Solid Tumors at Novartis España), and Pilar Fernández Pascual (President of the Asociación Española Cáncer de Mama Metastásico), the event offered a comprehensive 360º perspective on the current and future landscape of cancer research and treatment.
