This message is succinct and strikes at the heart of the causes of the global refugee crisis. His appeal for help from governments around the world (and one assumes from the UN), is reflective of the hope of most refugees.
But, the problem is massive, and it remains a low priority for many countries.
If one counts domestically displaced people, the number of refugees is near 100 million. Predictions are that this number will continue to grow. Indeed, the issue is likely to be central to the US Presidential election this year; particularly when you consider that 250,000 people were detained by US immigration authorities in Dec 2023 alone.
With national resources focused on defense, rising cost of living, conflicts around the globe, and climate change, the resources available to support refugees are woefully inadequate.
