Can nature inspire climate action? 🌿 Here are five things we’ve learnt about the relationship between access to nature and the desire to look after it. We explored this in a research partnership with Wates Family Enterprise Trust and Chrysalis that included: 🌿 182 participants 🌿 19 community nature projects 🌿 activities ranging from seed sowing to veg pickling to tree grafting What were the results? Swipe through to see. Despite the endless benefits that come from spending time in nature, a third of us in the UK spend less than an hour a week in green space. We’re on a mission to bring nature closer to people, and people closer to nature – with an exciting announcement coming soon! #AccessToNature #GreenSpace #ClimateResearch #SustainabilityResearch

🐝 Did you know that Southeastern South America, from Brazil to Argentina, is a hotspot for bee diversity? A recent study has some eye-opening projections for 2050. Researchers modeled the distributions of 18 bee species and found a significant decrease in species richness in the northern regions. Most bees are shifting their ranges south to more stable habitats. Surprisingly, some resilient species are more vulnerable than expected. This study highlights the need to consider multiple factors when assessing species’ vulnerability to climate change. Environmental scientist || Climate change Activist|| ||Tree planter & grower || Earth dedicated volunteer
We began with big plans, but halfway through, some gave up it took too long, seemed pointless, or felt like a waste of time. The choice is ours and as an Earth Volunteer ( Earth Volunteers ) it's my role to ensure we are at peace with nature. I stuck with patience, maybe mixed in a bit of sacrifice, and now perseverance guides us. soon I'll launch another big tree-planting session, aiming for 1000 trees, with at least 60% expected survival rate. #trees #climateaction #environment

Today begins Climate Week in NYC. It will be an intense week filled with scientific and global information sharing, strategizing, hope and determination. We must heal our planet, and the fastest, healthiest, science-based way to do that, is through earth and forest restoration. If we simply slightly reduce carbon, but do not solve for the issues of biodiversity decline and soil destruction, we will fail. We must do this for our children and grandchildren. It is a long, but possible and essential endeavor. For more information, visit www.bio4climate.org Check the bountiful compendium of articles there. 😎🌿🌲. Do not despair. Learn, connect, act. #reforestation #bio4climate #biodiversity #earthcools #greenuptocooldown #ecorestoration #soilrestoration #climatechange #hopefortheplanet

Today is the UN International Day of Forests. The Day celebrates and raises awareness of the importance of all types of forests. The theme for 2024 is forests and innovation. Trees clean the air we breathe. They provide habitat to over 80% of the Earth's living species. They help regulate our climate and sequester 20% of the carbon from our atmosphere. Trees are essential contributors to our mental and physical well being. #ForestDay #IntlForestDay #GenerationRestoration

Earth and humans share an intricate relationship, one marked by dependence and impact. Since the dawn of civilization, humans have relied on Earth's resources for sustenance, shelter, and progress. However, this relationship has become increasingly imbalanced, as human activities have led to environmental degradation, climate change, and loss of biodiversity. Despite this, Earth continues to provide for humanity, offering a home and sustenance. Now, more than ever, there is a growing recognition of the need for sustainable practices to ensure the well-being of both Earth and its inhabitants, fostering a more harmonious relationship between humans and their planet. #happyearthday #climatechange

We know that #climatechange threatens our only home, the planet Earth. Besides humans, this planet is also home to various species of flora and fauna. Different geographies form habitats for various species of plants and animals, and just like our home, climate change is threatening their homes. Moreover, the expansion of cities is further shrinking the space available for their habitats. For a better and sustainable future, we need to plan our resources prudently so that we all can coexist here for a long time. Also, the responsibility is more on the heads of younger people. #Worldhabitatday #mondaythoughts

EARTH DAY! ========= Today is Earth Day. It's important to have a date set in the year to celebrate the celestial spaceship we all share. But, we should celebrate the Earth every day, not just one day a year. This magnificent living and breathing ecosystem birthed us humans and we are now eroding it daily. What is the right way to balance the needs of the planet and its human inhabitants? I had a deep discussion with the amazing Julia Hailes a few days ago about the best approach to tackling the challenges posed by human induced climate change. Julia is the real deal when it comes to having a life long commitment to nature and ameliorating the human impact upon it. She is a firm believer in protecting nature, especially systemic ecosystems like the rain forest and the oceans. I believe that many of the short to mid-term changes to climate are already baked-in and we should devote more resources to protecting vulnerable populations from the adverse impact of extreme events. Invest more in adaptation and resilience. Both perspectives have merit. We should not give up on nature, especially systemic ecosystems, but we should remember that action now can relieve future suffering for millions. Let's all commit to make every day Earth Day for the coming year, and for the following years, working together to create a better future for humanity, and the planet! #earthday #earth #climate #climatechange #resilience #adaptation #mitigation #nature

Thank you Hubbub. It was a pleasure to work with Lizzie Murray-Clark on the work. Some really interesting and exciting insights - many of which we ‘sort of’ knew but without the evidence. Nature connectedness is key and incredibly powerful. It isn’t something we can ignore as we strive to support change. Great to see the work being shared. 👏🌱
