EquiLend Holdings brought back online multiple systems after #ransomwareattackers breached its infrastructure. The attack forced the company to take its NGT next-generation trading platform offline which handles transactions worth $2.4 trillion every month and is used by over 190 firms globally, including #assetowners, agency lending banks, #brokerdealers and #hedgefunds. Due to the outages, some customers had to process their securities lending #manually, and firms were at risk of not knowing their #exposure or being able to meet #regulatoryreportingdeadlines. This was not an isolated #cyberincident. Last October, the U.S. Treasuries market experienced disruptions after the New York financial services subsidiary of the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China was hit by ransomware of an affiliate of the LockBit group and in January 2023, LockBit claimed credit for an attack against London-based software firm ION Cleared Derivatives, which supports derivatives trading and is part of Dublin-based ION Group. Rho Markets, a decentralized finance protocol, has resolved a $7.6 million exploit caused by a misconfiguration. The attacker exploited this vulnerability but later contacted Rho Markets, expressing willingness to return the funds if the platform acknowledged the misconfiguration. Following this, the compromised funds are being restored to Rho Markets' borrow pools. This incident highlights ongoing security challenges in the DeFi space .
