Why You Should Welcome Back "Boomerang Employees" 7. Reduced Turnover Risks Boomerang employees have a clearer understanding of what to expect from the company, having worked there before. Their decision to return indicates they believe it’s a good fit, reducing the likelihood of them leaving in the short term. This can be especially beneficial for critical roles where stability and continuity are essential. While it is always crucial for companies to attract new talent, there is undeniable value in considering former employees for vacant roles. They bring a blend of familiarity and new insights, making them valuable assets. The next time a former top performer indicates an interest in returning, it might be worth giving serious consideration to the benefits they bring to the table.

I once had a conversation with a HR Leader about multigenerational workforce. My suggestion was that we need to create learning space where the onus of understanding should not be on the shoulders of the seniors alone. The younger generation must also work towards understanding the generations before them. She called me 'old fashion' and said that it won't work. That is ok, I agree that sometimes I have my blindspots too. Later in the conversation, she expressed that these younger people are not returning to work and prefer to work from home. They also don't understand that face to face conversation is more meaningful than video conferencing. I rest my case. The nature of work is highly collaborative. This is not something new. What is new is the rapid change in tech adoption, translating into different social norms between different age groups. A single generation that use to span 10 to 15 years could now be just 5 to 10 years. The result is a multigenerational workforce. Learning works best when it is a collaborative process. All generations need to develop the understanding and appreciate the strengths of one another. Games and simulations are excellent tools to help everyone develop the necessary insights in working together to solve complex problems. I will be addressing this issue at the upcoming Talent Next Conference & Exhibition on the topic Shaping the New Era of Learning: Engaging the Multigenerational Workforce. Date : 14 & 15 MAY 2024 Venue: Fraser Place Puteri Harbour, Johor Bahru Thank you for the opportunity Dehviaa Siva Kumar and the TalentVibe Team for this opportunity. #TalentVibe #VibrantTalent #VibrantFuture #TalentNEXT #SalamMajuJohor #FutureReadyHR #Conference #TeamLeadership #Innovation

𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐈𝐧𝐝𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐇𝐚𝐫𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐲 𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐞? We often find HR Managers, Bosses and Staff feeling frustrated at workplace. Having trust issues & dragging themselves to work due to no motivation & lack of positive work relations at workplace. The only reason why some people show up to work is just to get their pay at month end. Such work arrangements are not productive, nor enriching to workers. There are ways companies can promote better & positive industrial relations at their workplace, below are some tips: 1. Start right by properly onboarding new hires into the workplace. The more understanding they have, the better the appreciation at workplace. 2. Develop a system of rewards that encourages & motivates idea contributions & wins. 3. Practice workplace safety, both physically & mentally. Trust & psychology safety goes a long way in building relationships. 4. Establish simplified work processes & make available work tools for your staff to perform at their optimum. 5. Invest in workforce continues learning and development. Not only do they become skilled, but they can also grow in your company. According to this article in Harvard Business Review (Link in comment below), more than a quarter of all “new” hires are actually boomerang employees, and nearly 20% of workers who quit during the pandemic have since returned to their old employers. Returning to a previous employer is more common than you'd expect. How do you deal with ex-employees who re-apply? Do you have colleagues who returned to the same employer? I personally know at least three cases at Serendi - Talent Acquisition - including myself. Observing this phenomenon and speaking for myself, I believe people have good reasons to re-join and possibly stay longer with overall higher satisfaction. I am convinced that there is nothing wrong with exploring opportunities and gaining experiences outside your current company. If anything, it's a benefit if you return with more experience and insights. 😉 It's just part of human nature to believe "the grass is always greener on the other side" - until you realize it’s not. ;) Interested to hear your stories & experiences! #SerendiRPO #Boomerang

"The most engagement we ever had was about FengShui !!" Last week, I had a meeting with the HRD and the Talent Acquisition Director of a multinational company here in Shanghai. We discussed Diversity & Inclusion and the various initiatives they were implementing to support their teams. One of the initiatives that stood out was the introduction of "learning bites." These are short, voluntary learning sessions aimed at personal development rather than direct professional training for performance improvement. Each week, the company offers different topics for employees to explore. Interestingly, the topic that generated the most engagement among the employees was Feng Shui ! This demonstrates two important points: 1. Some companies are genuinely committed to the well-being of their teams by offering unique learning opportunities. 2. Traditional topics like Feng Shui are now of significant interest to employees, reflecting a shift in their preferences and openness to explore different areas of knowledge. #DiversityAndInclusion #LearningBites #PersonalDevelopment #FengShui #ContinuousLearning #EmployeeEngagement #MultinationalCompany #Shanghai

THE ESSENCE OF TOWNHALL Mingling is an inevitable activity within the office. No matter how different the culture is, our needs for interaction to each other is vital and might decide how the social life will be cultivated. Especially in the office where life among each team / division is important and one of the goal for the company to thrive through decades. So is with our project Capital Bank Headquarter. Located on the 3rd Floor which contains conference function we put this townhall right next to the foyer. It's also situated centralized which may inter-connecting each meeting space so the traffic will be crossing by this area. To reduce the intensity of who's passing by we located several seating spaces to instead develop it as a mingling area so every user can stopping by to just saying hello to each other. By simply hello we can manage each other interaction into conversation. Then from conversation it could lead the sense of united which may enhance the collaborative culture within.
