🌏 In today's evolving work landscape, ensuring effective worker voice is crucial, especially amidst informal work settings, global supply chains, and areas with inadequate labour laws. 🔑 Effective worker voice comprises of 6 key components: elect, represent, include, protect, enable, and empower. In other words: electing representatives, inclusivity and diversity, protection from harassment, enabling organisations through capacity building of members, empowering workers to secure outcomes through actions like striking and bargaining. 👷♂️ Traditional corporate social responsibility and social auditing programme falls short; it's time to embrace worker-driven initiatives like Enforceable Brand Agreements and the Fair Food Program to drive meaningful worker voice. This initiative aims to enable companies to report more effectively on their impacts on workers. 𝐊𝐞𝐲 𝐇𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬 • New Review Launch: GRI has started a consultation on redrafted versions of three standards: "GRI 402: Labor/Management Relations," "GRI 401: Employment," and "GRI 202: Market Presence." • Employment: Non-standard forms of employment, personal data protection, privacy, and hiring/turnover metrics. • Remuneration and Working Time: Cost-of-living estimates, gender pay gap, and social protection coverage. • Significant Changes for Workers: Consultation and notice periods, redeployment, up-skilling, re-skilling, and termination of employment. • Expert Guidance: The revision process involves an expert group with representation from the International Trade Union Confederation, Global Unions Federations, International Organization of Employers, and the ILO. • Alignment with Global Standards: The updates will align with key intergovernmental instruments from the ILO, UN, and OECD. • Future Consultations: Two more consultations will cover working life and career development, and workers’ rights and protections, with updates to 11 standards in total. 𝐖𝐡𝐲 𝐈𝐭 𝐌𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐄𝐒𝐆 • Social Responsibility: Labor practices are a key component of the 'Social' aspect in ESG.
