Hey everyone, welcome to our next installment of tips with TA. I'm senior talent advisor Lauren and I'll be giving you some tips on how to refresh your LinkedIn profile to optimize it for success. Follow along for a few easy tips that can make a large impact. All right, starting at the top profile picture. A profile picture helps put a face to the name. It shows your personality or your profession. This is the first impression someone will have of you. Preferably a LinkedIn profile picture should also be a solo. Picture and I'm here to give you comfort that it does not need to be a professional headshot. I'm choose something that represents you well, your profession or the profession you want. I have a playful and adventurous spirit and that's the type of work I tend to go after. So my profile picture was taken at the end of a really muddy ATV tour. So choose something that represents you best and remember you can always change it if a professional headshot represents you best and it feel you feel like it represents. Your industry best feel free to go after that, but it's definitely not required. Similarly to your profile, you can also include a background photo, a banner photo some might call it. You can see minor mountains here. You can choose one of the preloaded LinkedIn options or choose one of your own again that best represents you and your work. Next is to add in an About me section. Starting off at the top you can edit your intro. You can add your title, your industry education, any certifications you have, etc. These are fairly self-explanatory. Filling these out will help your profile be more searchable for recruiters or other people to easily find and connect with you. You can also add a recording to your name to ensure people pronounce it correctly, and I believe this is available on the LinkedIn mobile application so you can upload it there and the About Me section. Think of this as a summary, just a brief overview of your profile. It's a really great area to tell people who you are, what you do, and what you want to do. It doesn't need to be too long, just a short summary of who you are. On your profile and your job experiences, some things you can highlight here, some unique skills that you have, some accomplishments, any specializations, any passions, interests that you have. Again, really great opportunity to focus here on smaller, unique things that maybe don't really find a place with your experiences on your resume, but you still want to highlight. Next, we're going to dive into work experience. This is the biggest portion of your LinkedIn profile to keep it basic. But effective, you can put in your previous jobs the titles you held and the dates that you've worked there. To take it a step further, you can expand on each job a bit more by adding in a summary of what the company does. To expand on an even more, you can add a summary or a few bullets of your responsibilities or accomplishments. Don't forget to attach any skills in any websites or content that you're able to share. Next is education. So adding in your education will open you up to a huge network of people that have gone to your school, have attended the same types of courses that you've done. It could be helpful if you're looking for jobs using LinkedIn for education. It's not just exclusive to bachelors degrees, masters degrees, PHD's, etcetera. Enter in any certifications, any boot camps you've completed, any online courses, really put all of the things that you've used. Further, your education and the last thing is volunteering and skills. Adding in a volunteering section is just a nice little touch if you tend to volunteer pretty frequently or you know, if you want to showcase some of your side hobbies or passions and skills. This is a really great area where you can put any sorts of coding languages, tools, systems, processes, really anything that you're familiar with. Again, these things just make your profile more searchable for recruiters. For other people to find you in your network. A few other tips for LinkedIn success. You can add profile banners. You can add an open to work banner, which can be public or private. If it's public, everyone can see it. It's on your profile picture. If it's private, then only recruiters with special licenses get to view it, and the recruiters and HR team at your current company should not be able to see it. So you don't have to worry about that. You can add in a hiring banner. It's easy for people to see that you're recruiting and will opt to reach out to you if they see an open position. They'd be interested in if you're an entrepreneur or have your own business. You can market yourselves in this way by adding a custom button to your profile as well. Another thing you can do is editing your URL with over 1 billion users on LinkedIn. Your URL may be a long string of letters and numbers, but you can edit it to make it something shorter, maybe something more unique to who you are, your business, your profile, and it'll be a little bit easier to read on your resume or to share during networking events. Recommendations is another big one. You can write some recommendations for people that you've enjoyed working with in the past, or you can even request a recommendation from someone you've worked with previously. They'll show up at the bottom of your profile. It's just an extra nice touch to have a few other last minute things connecting with people. Endorse, write recommendations, add some interests, and follow some great people. It'll really help drive your LinkedIn traffic and will help you with this next point of engaging with content like. Comment and share posts that resonate with you. Remember, this is another form of social media, so please take care and be mindful of what and how you're representing yourself in this world. Last tip, make sure to refresh your page every six to 12 months. It'll ensure that it's as up to date as possible and so you will not forget any smaller in betweens that might happen between quarter to quarter. And that's it. Hopefully these tips will help give your profile a nice refresh. I'm proud of you for doing this work. It is no. Easy feat, but you've got it. #WorkingWednesday is a networking post specifically designed to connect active recruiters and hiring managers with active jobseekers.
Those looking for work will comment what they're looking for. Those hiring will share what openings they have.
I do my best to read through them. Comment where I can. And tag people that I think could be helpful. I try to be hands-on to maximize the effect.
Here are my concerns:
1. Spam. This is not for that. This is not to post a "let's connect" and fly away. Those comments would be deleted.
2. Lack of participation. Recently, there's been less involvement from real people on LinkedIn. I want real, genuine people to take part.
3. Clout-chasers. This is not for likes or clicks. This is for helping people find work and get hired.

Community Update (3/7):
Some good momentum with interviews & connections the past few weeks. I do hope to see the trend pick up for more senior folks (XVPs) especially in agency roles (growth anyone?) but for now, contracts & projects continue to be effective gateways to full time for this group of talented, experienced and needed XVPs (even if you don't think so).
One other item - resumes only start a conversation. Shifting focus from resumes and easy-apply job applications to outreach & conversation is meaningful. Don't underestimate how powerful these connections & catch ups are as part of your job search to sharpen your value prop, to keep you on your toes and to feel out how you aim your experience at market & company problems.
In other words, these connection moments make you better at articulating where & how your experience brings value to the company before they even start talking about the job itself.
And that's where a community should be most helpful - making human connections, creating opportunities to sharpen communications and just giving you the chance to seek out immediate, direct, constructive feedback.

My close friend asked me to help her find a job. She applied for 5 jobs in one day. 3 days later, she had 3 interviews scheduled. This is what I told her:
1. Mindset - Shake off the desperation. Only apply to jobs that truly pique your interest. Don't tailor your resume 1,765 times to fit random job descriptions. Apply for the jobs that fit your resume.
2. Resume - Give AI resume builders a try. I recommended Enhancv to her. If you can't afford that option, make sure your resume tells a story. If it's boring for you to read, it's boring for the recruiter too (trust me, I should know).
3. Hybrid isn't so bad - Fully remote roles are highly competitive and your application is likely being sucked into a black hole. I told her to go for the jobs that have less than 100 applications within the first 2 hours of posting.
4. Public jobs - Don't overlook city, state, and federal jobs. I know the pay isn't always attractive but, the benefits are to die for. When's the last time you heard of an IRS worker being laid off? 2 of her upcoming interviews are with the state. 1 of them is a remote position while the other is hybrid and allows her bring her baby to work.
4. Network - This is something she's done for a while now. Becoming visible in-person and on LinkedIn is crucial. Start having virtual coffees with people in different states. Start attending professional events in your community. Get to know people, don't just SHOVE your resume in someone's face or in their DMs. Build relationships organically.
These are a few of the tips I gave her and she landed 3 interviews in less than a week of applying. Not to mention, a recruiter just reached out to her on LinkedIn for an executive role, that she didn't even apply for.

Candidate experience today is about finding the people where they are. Those seeking talent need to create processes that invite them in and don't make them jump through hoops.
#Recruiters should use LinkedIn's dope new custom button tool so #jobseekers can find your company's careers page easily. Bonus points if you list on your careers page why someone would want to work with/for YOU. It's a two-way street.
⭐ Tip for jobseekers: always use a company's careers page on their website to apply, never LinkedIn or Indeed or any third-party website. I have seen the application get totally lost too many times.

I do want to share some observations from my first (hopefully only, thankfully brief) experience in leaving a company without a new gig lined up. Hopefully this is helpful for those who find themselves in a similar position.
Bottom line is that the job market is really competitive. Fully remote workplaces have exponentially grown the talent pool. And the ease in which anyone can apply online for any role create a glut of applicants that make it harder and harder to get noticed.
Given all that, here’s what turned the corner for me in my search:
First, I started being proactive, almost ABM-like in seeking out companies I find interesting. Reacting to roles being pushed out by LinkedIn or Indeed get you lost in the flood. Very often there are roles listed on Careers pages that aren’t being promoted out. Or, where there are currently no roles of interest, reaching out to connections can open doors. Also, particularly for those in Boston and other tech-centric metros, Keith Cline’s VentureFizz is great for understanding the hiring and VC landscapes and highlighting companies that are growing.
Second, for roles where I believed I was a great fit but didn’t get called for an interview, I used the access granted by LinkedIn Premium and reached out to the recruiter. One thing I know from being on the hiring side is that criteria used for resume screening can be pretty arbitrary. Recruiters get bombarded with resumes, have little or no domain expertise to address the nuances of specific roles they’re hiring for, and can only act off the criteria provided by the hiring manager. A short note pointing out why you might be a fit is a way to get noticed. Some recruiters might find it annoying, but many seem to appreciate it. You're making their job easier.
A huge thank you to those who helped in in my search. As I let people know I was looking, I was amazed at how many went out of their way to talk, broker conversations, and to recommend roles and companies. It was a unique opportunity to change organizations for the first time in two decades, and help build the Product Marketing function in the US from the ground up. I got to work with truly amazing people (too many to mention here), and contribute to the organization’s positioning and messaging in a meaningful way. I had the pleasure of experiencing Brazilian culture and build great relationships with my colleagues there.
