I worked for Noom in 2020-2022. I was part of a mass corporate lay off from a job I truly enjoyed and loved. I had high hopes of moving up in the company until that opportunity was stripped away. I don’t think anyone really knew that the company was undergoing major changes and some I believe were financial. Alas, that is not what this post is about and I don’t care to get involved… It saddens me to know that all of my co workers were able to land another full time job because it’s taken me years to recoup what I had. (Oh and not to mention, I was 5 months pregnant with my second at the time I got laid off.) Some of those jobs came sooner than others. I helped a former co worker get a job that was offered to me but I could not take it, not because I didn’t want it, but because the hours were horrible with me having a family with two small children. Noom offered its employees wonderful hours and great benefits. Is that too good to be true? Maybe so because it didn’t last. I’m thankful I was able to have the opportunity I did though for the time I had it. I was able to work remotely while also having time to be able to pick up my child from preschool and come back home to work the rest of my shift. Do jobs offer this? I have yet to find one… Don’t get me wrong, I have been offered jobs to work. They want to pay me less than what I made with Noom or the pay is not up to financial par for my family but the hours end up being horrific like 12-8pm EST. How does anyone make since of this with 2 small children to feed and get to bed? It doesn’t work that way…life should not be that difficult when asking for a quality remote job with pay and hours. I’m not asking for a raise. I’m asking minimal standards I feel that anyone should ask for in a job. Also, I know some may read this, judge and think I’m whining or whatever they will do with this post. I’m simply saying, what will it take to get hired remotely full time again with decent hours? I’d love some real answers. My heart breaks for the 800(!!) employees laid off from Vacasa yesterday. I get you. I was part of layoff number 3 there in February. It's hard, and it sucks. And you know what- staying positive in the face of adversity is great, but I think everyone needs to know that it's *okay* to be angry too! We had our sense of security, our income, our routines...our whole lives upended in one 5 minute video call. Seriously, you're allowed to feel those emotions. To any of you out there who were just laid off, let me know if there's anything I can do to help. I'm still looking for a new job myself, so I can't offer much in the way of referring you to my company haha, but I can send you job posts that I know you're qualified for. As a Recruiter/HR professional, I can look at your resume or offer job searching advice. And here are some of the survival tips I have to offer: * If you have student loans, apply for hardship forbearance. * If your health insurance runs out and you aren't covered by someone else's plan, apply for Medicaid. Do it on your state's website directly. If you don't qualify, go to Healthcare.gov and see if you can get a reduced price plan. * File your unemployment benefits claim right away. Some states have a waiting period. * See if you qualify for low income assistance on your utility bills. Shoot, even call your other utilities like internet provider and say "I just lost my job. Do you have any discounts you can give me?" * Don't dismiss temp work. There are some great temp agencies out there that will work their butts off to place you, and they often have temp-to-hire roles. Hang in there guys. #vacasa #vacasalayoffs

Its burning! At tech cities, very old flats are asking 40K per month! Just 2 year back, same was available at 20K per month! Yes, rent is throwing money in the dustbin so it should not be expensive. Secondly, techies can't purchase flat in layoff season! Rental was consuming 20% salary now 35% of the salary. This is not acceptable! We can't drain 65% of salary in rental, income tax and commute! Leaders, HR please understand. Even if you want work from office. Give 2 years time frame. It will take more than a year for rental to crash as new hiring stopped so supply will over strip demand

I always like to review my previous predictions for hits and misses. The hits! - More experience/entertainment based jobs. See: Golden Retriever happy hours in Vermont. - More collective action/bargaining. See: over 30k jobs re-added after UAW and SAG strikes resolved. - Perks out. KPIs in. See: perks (outside of family related ones) on the decline. The misses! - I knew the demographics would be in our favor but didn’t anticipate the labor market staying as tight as it has this year overall. Government, healthcare and hospitality kept raging (see: household credit card debt...). - I thought there would be more unique movement in data spaces specifically around collection and compliance this year. Are you hiring the person? Or Are you hiring the experience? I would love to know. Because it seems like it’s either or. Most roles in my opinion can be trained or taught so I feel like hiring based off the attitude and the persons mentality should be the best approach. "Karma is the job, coming straight home to me!" As we step into this holiday season, I wanted to thank everyone who has helped me so far. This has been a strange, but rewarding, year. I was laid off in May (due to the market), landed a part-time social media job (right after I was laid off), got a short recruiting job (Sept-Nov, laid off due to the market), and here I am!! I'm sad, but I'm not giving up. Shameless plug➡️ I’m on the hunt for a remote/hybrid recruiting role (hybrid in office 2-3 days a week is fine). I LOVE what I do and I miss it. I am not interested in selling insurance or gaining financial freedom by selling something as a part of a team on a commission basis. If you want to leave, then leave. There should be no bad feelings or guilt. Because you don't owe anyone a thing. I’m hearing a lot about “job guilt” lately. Do you think companies feel guilty laying off 100+ people at a time? Just look at the mass exodus of teachers, nurses, and frontline workers who are leaving in droves because they are unappreciated, poorly treated, and underpaid. ❌ Maybe you don't want to travel/work 50+ hours a week. ❌ Maybe you are not being paid what you are worth. ❌ Maybe you aren’t passionate about the role. ❌Maybe you are in a toxic environment.
