Those who know me will know I like to plan. I plan everything out during Twixmas; set weekdays for working on the business each week, right down to the dates I'm going to see my folks throughout the year. During December I did a fair bit of train travel which let me explore a new idea, draft the concept and basic wireframes, and talk it through a developer. It seemed that this could have traction so decided to add it to my 2024 plan. Now, this is a pretty chunky task and it's going to take some work, so when planning my year out, I had to think about whether I was going to add the project activities to complete in "on the business" time, or whether it is going to need it's own time set aside as a separate project, and I had to consider my capacity. Most of the leg-work will be outsourced (particularly as I have no dev skills!), and I'm considering pulling in a fractional CTO to manage it through, so for now I'm allocating 0.5 days a week to the project. I'd love to know, from those of you who have developed apps alongside your usual day job, what lessons you learned.

2 years ago, when Alfred and I started Syncdesk. We both noted the reasons why we wanted to build a company. The #1 priority for both of us was to learn. We were eager to learn how to run and grow a real business. However, we quickly realized that also meant stepping far out of our comfort zone. And, very often as well. That's nerve-wracking, but I’ve also found that’s where you grow the most. I remember going into our first few sales meetings. We were nervous as hell, and I don’t even think the guy knew why we were there. 😡 It was a shit show… 😊 But after a few shit shows, it became quite okay. 😁 Then, after some time, we started to enjoy selling and got better at receiving feedback. 🤩 And now, talking to existing and potential customers is the highlight of the work we do. In a start-up, you have to do everything yourself, because there's no other to do it for you. Meaning, that you'll continuously have to step out of your comfort zone. This aspect of running a start-up has pushed us to grow a lot, both as persons and professionally. Reflecting on our journey so far puts a huge smile on my face and reminds me how far we’ve come. 😁 And the best part is, we're only getting started.

Speaking on camera is hard. And knowing what gear to buy/how to arrange it all is even harder. Re-posting a walkthrough of my wfh video studio setup. Here’s the Amazon list: https://lnkd.in/erZXViNJ Hoping this gives inspo on what to invest in if you want to take your video to the next level and how to arrange everything to record. P.S. I know this can gear can be intimidating and expensive. There are cheaper alternatives to all of these of course. This was my dream studio that Motion (Creative Analytics) helped me build.
