*resists urge to jump in air with raised arms* 🌱 Our conservation rangers recently combined with Toyota staff from the local Altona facility, and Friends of Skeleton Creek to help our local wildlife. 🦋🐝🐛 300 indigenous wildflowers were planted alongside Skeleton Creek by the Point Cook Road underpass, helping to improve habitat for our local butterlies, bees, and other creepy crawlies. Not to mention how much better extra green looks! A big thank you to all our eco-collaborators. 🙌

Each of us can make a difference every day, with small and large changes and actions towards a better future for our ecosystems 🌍 Did you attend the #RestoreNatureNow march on Saturday? What were your takeaways? Our Clare Sain-ley-Berry and Sara Wynne-Pari were blown away by the energy and positivity towards change. #Sustainability #ClimateChange #ClimateAction #SustainableBusiness #SustainabilityTraining
Couldn't fail to be moved by the speeches at the #RestoreNatureNow march today. 73 million fewer birds in the sky than 50 years ago, industrial fishing and bottom trawling in marine protected areas, 60% wildlife decline in my lifetime. But such energy to push forward the solutions that we know can work. Thank you Katie-Jo Luxton, Craig Bennett, Sara Wynne-Pari WWF, RSPB, The Woodland Trust, The Wildlife Trusts,Amphibian and Reptile Conservation and so many more - this is why we do what we do.

A heart represents love, compassion...yet the wildlife we cherish needs more than heartfelt intentions. 50,000 species disappear forever every single year. That's a staggering number, a loss we can no longer ignore. This World Wildlife Day, let's transform our love into action – supporting sustainable choices, demanding change, and spreading the word far and wide. #wildlifeday #worldwildlifeday #envopap #sustainablechoices #3march2024

Did you know? In honor of #NationalCougarDay, we’re celebrating the magnificent Florida panther, the only puma population east of the Mississippi! 🌿🌎 Once thriving in woodlands and swamps throughout the Southeast, the Florida panther's habitat has been dramatically reduced due to human activities since the 1600s. Despite these challenges, the panther is now recognized as Florida’s official state animal and plays a crucial role in our ecosystem. Here are some fascinating facts: 🐾 Panthers are an umbrella species. Protecting them also safeguards the many other plants and animals in their vast habitats, which can span up to 200 square miles for a single male! 🐾 As apex predators, they help control feral hog numbers and keep prey populations like deer and raccoons balanced and healthy. While great efforts have been made to restore the population, the Florida Panther remains one of the most endangered mammals in the U.S., and supporting their conservation helps preserve the rich biodiversity of our beautiful state. 📸@garyroche.wildlife @floridaexploreed #FLStateParks #FloridaPanther #WildlifeConservation #EndangeredSpecies #EcosystemProtection

Wade Crowfoot just curious when these structures are installed has thought gone into soil media to support vegetation growing on the installation? I ask because soil media can be amended with forest derived biochar. This would help to keep vegetation green longer, with less clay (weight) on the structure. Then there is the fact that using forest derived biochar can also reduce risk of ignition and spread of fire in the same habitat.
One of my favorite priorities to work on is wildlife crossings🐾, which help animals move safely across our lands and protect motorists. In an era of thorny environmental challenges, animal deaths from our roads is a fixable problem.💯 Wildlife crossings are a win-win solution🤝that help people & nature thrive together. This morning, I helped launch California Wildlife Reconnected🐾, a landmark public-private partnership to build more wildlife crossings. The incredible Beth Pratt and the National Wildlife Federation have brought together philanthropy & government to get more crossings built, more quickly. Which is critical to protect our renowned biodiversity in decades to come. This effort was inspired💡 by the largest wildlife crossing in the world that Caltrans is currently building outside of LA, thanks to the Annenberg Foundation, the Wildlife Conservation Board, and so many others. It's World Bee Day! 🐝 #DYK bees pollinate about a third of the food humans eat? They also pollinate most flowering plants, providing food and habitat for other wildlife. 🌸 You can help protect the bees and our planet by growing native plants. Recognizing the diverse skills and expertise within indigenous and local communities is essential for effective conservation. Beyond being rangers, these individuals often possess valuable scientific knowledge, technical skills, and cultural insights that can contribute significantly to conservation efforts. Empowering these communities involves ensuring that funding and resources trickle down to the grassroots level, allowing them to take ownership of conservation initiatives and implement solutions tailored to their needs and priorities. By supporting and empowering indigenous and local communities, we can enhance both the protection of nature and the well-being of people living alongside it.Ensuring that indigenous and local communities are empowered and recognized for their diverse skills and expertise is essential for effective conservation. Currently, this silent barrier in conservation not only impacts neglected communities but also undermines the protection of species and valuable forests, as their hearts become hardened against conservation efforts. Therefore, placing human well-being and empowerment at the center of conservation is not just ethically necessary but also crucial for achieving meaningful and lasting conservation outcomes that benefit both people and the planet.

Indigenous people were the first caretakers of our lands and they nurture it with ancestral knowledge ensuring it thrives for generations to come. It's all interconnected, and for wildlife conservation to work, people living alongside wildlife must be included, and the planet we all share must be protected. On #EarthDay, I want to proudly share this new documentary via Deutsche Welle featuring Kenya’s First Female Maasai Rangers, ifaw's #TeamLioness! Every day, Leah & Purity travel around Amboseli National Park not knowing which animal they will encounter next. Maybe a buffalo? An elephant? Or perhaps a lion? Follow their journey to find out! #MustWatch #IndigenousPeople #NaturalHabitats #Biodiversity #Conservation https://lnkd.in/eZ6dn6Vr.
