🌈 Happy International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT)! Our staff and residents came together today to celebrate our wonderful LGBTQIA+ community and help reduce incidence of discrimination and harassment within our city and beyond. Councillor Tony Briffa and members of our LGBTQIA+ community raised the flags in front of the Civic Centre in support of this important day. We are always working to make sure our community and workplace is safe, inclusive and welcoming of everyone, no matter what you believe or who you love.

We have just created an Ally Pack. The Ally Pack is for organisations to sign up to to find out how they can stand in solidarity with us and our campaign to raise awareness of online disability hate. Hate speech towards disabled people is not only the least reported it is also underreported. This is due to the disabled community feeling they are not always able to stand up for themselves. Some of us feel our voices are not respected. Also we may not have strong networks or connections that can offer support when issues arise online We believe allies can support the disabled community to be empowered. We recognise that at times the voices of the non-disabled are listened to more and we want to tap into this power and potential. The online disabled community is growing but we need more people to stand in solidarity with us Our Ally Pack will give you tools and tips so that you can play an active role in reporting online hate speech towards disabled people You can sign up to our Ally Pack here https://lnkd.in/eW9cZHrF Also could you share it within your workplace and networks. This will really help CYA to grow their allies If you have any questions or thoughts let me know Thomas please share this with all the cool and regional businesses and International Business

Sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) is a pervasive issue that violates human rights and creates barriers to safe, equitable, and inclusive societies. To address SGBV, we need to implement strategies that include education and awareness, empowering survivors, prevention programs, training and capacity building, policy and legal reform, community engagement, and collaboration. Let's work together to create safer and more equitable communities for everyone. #EndSGBV #SaferCommunities #Equality

Social justice is both a process and a goal. It involves: ● Creating and sustaining a fair and equal society ● Ending systemic violence and racism ● Valuing diversity ● Providing equal opportunities to all members ● Ensuring fair allocation of resources ● Supporting human rights The goal of social justice education is to ensure that all groups in society participate fully and equally. This includes a vision of society where all members are physically and psychologically safe and secure. #socialjustice #blacklivesmatter #justice #humanrights #equality #blm #activism #love #community #racism #education #covid #criminaljusticereform #mentalhealth #nonprofit #racialjustice #feminism #antiracism #bethechange #activist #politics #equity #civilrights #freedom #nojusticenopeace #criminaljustice #diversity #socialchange #prisonreform #vote

Organizing is a potent force for marginalized communities, offering them a vital avenue to amplify their voices and catalyze meaningful change. By uniting individuals who share common concerns and aspirations, organizing empowers these communities to advocate for their rights, challenge systemic injustices, and build collective power. Through organizing, marginalized groups can create solidarity, forge networks of support, and implement concrete solutions to address the challenges they face. It fosters a sense of community and agency, enabling individuals to take control of their own destinies and work towards a more equitable and inclusive society. Ultimately, organizing serves as a beacon of hope, demonstrating the transformative potential of collective action in the pursuit of justice and equality. #SocialJustice #CommunityOrganizing #Empowerment #Solidarity #Equity #Activism #MarginalizedVoices #CollectiveAction #ChangeMakers #Inclusion #Advocacy #GrassrootsMovement #PowerToThePeople #Equality #JusticeForAll

🌟 Day 6: Awareness as a Tool for Advocacy and Change 🌟 Today, we reflect on the importance of awareness in advocacy, drawing inspiration from the Black Panther Party and leaders like David Hilliard. Their community programs—free breakfasts for children, health clinics, and educational initiatives—highlight how awareness can drive substantial change. 📝 Key Points from the Article: Challenging Biases: Awareness helps us identify and challenge our prejudices, fostering a more inclusive and empathetic society. Fostering Inclusivity: By educating ourselves about the intersectionality of Black and queer identities, we can build stronger, more resilient communities. Empowering Advocacy: Knowledge equips us to advocate effectively for justice and equity. Reflect on this: "The struggle for liberation is a long and arduous one, but it is the only path that leads to true freedom and justice for all people." – David Hilliard In light of recent events, it's crucial to recognize how proximity to whiteness can be dangerous for Black and non-white individuals. We must dismantle these barriers through active allyship and intersectionality. 📖 Read more and join the conversation on my Substack newsletter ➡️ In solidarity and empowerment, Desireé B Stephens #Pride #Juneteenth #BlackLiberation #Intersectionality #CommunityBuilding #SocialJustice #DEIA #InclusiveCommunities #Advocacy #Awareness #DavidHilliard #BlackPantherParty
