This post is a little longer but than my usual posts. Last night, we had dinner in Dallas with one of our key clients who happens to be one of the largest logistics companies in the world. We just finished a month long project with 15 placements in one of their key offices. They couldn’t believe how fast we were able to fill these roles and been skeptical about recruiting firms over promising and not delivering. Needless to say, they were extremely pleased. However this wasn’t what impressed them the most. A couple weeks ago Sean Rai receieved a call from a candidate who was going to habe to resign because they were going through some difficult life situations. Sean took it upon himself to sort out and pay for living accomadations for the candidate for the first week so the candidate could stay near the office and start as scheduled. No one told Sean to do this, he just felt like it was the right thing to do to help a person who was going through a difficult time. Last night at dinner an executive said that was one of the most genuine things he had seen in this industry. He said hearing about this is when he was fully convinced we were the right partner for them. Often times we get caught up in work and business but don’t forget about the human element in all of this. Awesome work Sean! #recruiting #gratitude #logistics

Reflecting on my first full week at Maria Mallaband Care Group Ltd & I couldn’t be happier 🙌 🎉 After being in 360 recruitment for a number of years & moving into a Talent Acquisition role can be a bit daunting, but being part of an incredible team makes that settling in period so much easier. I thought I’d share some tips on what I’ve learnt from moving internal & what has helped me settle into a new role, for anyone considering a move to internal, or those moving into a new role; 👉 Ask questions! Develop your understanding early on - be curious. Shout out to my team; Nick Stubley, Gemma Lynch, Lydia M., Emilee Prince & Adam Hussain. 👉 Having a clear induction plan from the off. Having the first week mapped out has been vitally important in my learning & development. So much so I’ve managed to get 7 offers out in my first week 🙌 👉 Learn from your colleagues, listen to their conversations, understand what they are doing and why. 👉 Choose your boss. Be on the same page & share their goals. After first meeting with Jess Sadler, there was no hesitation that this would be the right setting for me. 👉 There are far fewer (no) egos in internal recruitment. 👉 Be yourself! This is a great story and an important lesson about how people might see themselves and discount or fail to recognize their own capabilities. I often tell people to take stock of their experiences; for example, having a key role in their company's conversion to a new software platform. Very different from listing the duties of an Office Manager. Being able to showcase your experiences (versus jobs) is critical when it comes to your personal branding as well as a job search. Another take-away from this story: Business is business. Family is different. Though a caring, supportive and family-like culture can be terrific, never assume that such an environment offers ironclad protection. It doesn't. Have you taken an inventory of your critical and most valuable experiences? What did you learn from them? How might they differentiate you from others?
Let me tell you a story about Mary. Mary got pregnant and dropped out of college at the age of 21. She and her new husband moved to Texas. 2 years later, he decided he did not want to be a husband. Or a father. So, she moved back to Ohio to be near her Mom, Dad, and extended family. She took a job as a receptionist at an Insurance Agency. Raised her son. Finished her Bachelor's Degree. Pursued an MBA. She got promoted through the years, from Receptionist, to Billing Manager to Office Manager. She was making $75,000 a year. 3 months ago, after 26 years of service, she got laid off. No fanfare. No warning. Just walked into the office on a Tuesday and they said they were doing away with her job. She helped build their business. She thought they were like family! She was friends with the owners, they shared holidays, dinners and vacations together. She watched their family grow and more than once, took their 2 kids to school when they missed the bus, or delivered their lunch when they forgot it at home. She was heartbroken. Dejected. Felt like a failure. Felt like she'd been used. When she came to us for resume services, at the age of 56, she did not think she'd ever get another job. She was wrong. Not only is she smart, loyal, efficient, progressive and high energy, turns out, she was also amazing at the following..... Budgeting - IT - People Management - Hiring - Customer Relations - Schedule Management - Purchasing - Vendor Relations - Technology Integration - Process Improvement - Strategy - Leadership All this time, she thought she was just a glorified "Office Administrator." Turns out, she's an Operations Executive. She just accepted a new role. Director of Operations $135K a year. Who you are in life and who you are 'On Paper" are 2 very different things....
