Ally has become another DEI buzzword people use without doing the hard work of listening, dealing with uncomfortable feelings, having difficult conversations, getting educated, doing deep reflection, and working together toward a shared vision of equity. So much of what I see among well-intentioned allies is performative, not productive. Or worse, a lot of allyship can can cause harm and perpetuate the same racial inequities allies want to address. But equity is going to take more than just being an ally. We need to build solidarity, coalitions, and power. That starts with relationships, connection, and community. If you're not sure where to begin, I'll be co-facilitating an upcoming online workshop series with Elizabeth Allin and Crystal Y. White to explore how we deepen antiracism by deepening relationships. This is a conversation we've wanted to revisit for a while now and in this expanded workshop, we'll take on how to foster multiracial partnerships, what to do with your privilege, and why we need collective action.
