I am not gonna thank them. I will just help them with something instead. Here’s what we do at Springworks ~ a perfect blend of not too much and not too less! Sometimes, it’s the little things that make a difference. I came into the office in Valentine’s Day morning and found this little package of candy on my desk. It was a cute little package with a friendly message and about $0.50 worth of candy. Is this why I work at BlueHive Exhibits … no of course not. But… is it one of the little things that “we” do for each other that creates a culture of friendship, caring and teamwork. I say “we” because it’s the Buzz Squad that does this kind of stuff…. Not me. Who is this Buzz Squad you might ask? Well, it’s a group of employees that all volunteer extra time to work on ways to create better employee engagement. Nights out, parties, cookouts, birthday events, service projects, community donations etc. Is that important one might ask? I guess if you think having a good quality company culture and happy employees who work hard and go the extra mile… then yes, it is important. Does your company have its own version of a Buzz Squad? If you do… what kind of cool company events do they plan? If you don’t, who drives culture and engagement at your company? If you don’t have a good company culture… what might you do about it?? A shout out to this great group of Hivers who help yo keep thinks a bit lighter and having fun when things are busy and stressful. I spent a year working on a $90M passion project.    (and I didn’t get paid a dime.) And I didn’t care. Why? Because I was able to: → Be in control of the work (autonomy) → Be recognized for my value (visibility) → Apply my expertise and skills (mastery) → Gain skills that opened doors (opportunity) → Contribute to the success of the company (purpose) Money is not always the best way to motivate your team. Instead, take the time to: ↳ Know the strengths of the people on your team ↳ Give them autonomy in their approach to work ↳ Allow opportunities to apply their expertise ↳ Connect their work to the team’s success ↳ Tap into their innate desire for play Think back to when you were a kid. What would you spend hours doing without anyone hovering over your shoulder telling you what to do? For me, that was drawing. I would draw for HOURS. But as soon as I went to college to pursue industrial design, I lost interest in drawing. It turned play into work, and I haven’t drawn since. So, get creative. THANK YOU - as we end the year, it's time to remember to thank those who helped you be a success. Did you thank your staff for a job well done? I don’t mean did you thank them with a holiday gift or a holiday party. I mean – did you actually thank them? A simple email can be more meaningful than a gift. It shows you thought about the person. Your small gratitude can show you care. It shows that you understand that your team has been working through corporate struggles, social and political unrest. It means that you fully appreciate the work they have done this year.  Your team works for you. Their efforts become a joint success. Make sure they know how much you appreciate all their efforts.
