Pope Francis breaks silence on landmark decision allowing blessings for same-sex couples. In a TV interview, he addresses misunderstandings within the Catholic Church, emphasizing the need for dialogue and understanding. The December 18 ruling sparked global debates, especially among African bishops who resisted its implementation due to cultural differences. Despite Vatican clarifications that the blessings don't approve of gay sex, tensions persist. The Pope urges a compassionate approach, stressing the Church's role in guiding individuals without immediate condemnation. As debates unfold, Pope Francis seeks to balance inclusivity with traditional moral doctrines, aiming to foster a more welcoming environment for the LGBTQ community within the Church. #PopeFrancis #LGBTQInclusion #ChurchDialogue #SameSexBlessings #CatholicDebates #UnderstandingFaith #PopeOnInclusivity #CulturalDiversity #MoralDoctrine #GlobalFaithDiscussion #LoveAndFaith #CompassionateChurch #FaithInDialogue #ChurchInTransition #GlobalFaithDebates #PopeSpeaksOut #CatholicInclusiveness #hindustanherald

Pope Francis, who recently approved a new Vatican policy that would allow Catholic priests to bless same-sex couples, is facing significant resistance from bishops who reject the Supreme Pontiff's attempts to make the Church more inclusive while still upholding its ban on gay marriage. Some LGBTQ+ activists hailed the move as a critical step toward ending discrimination against same-sex couples in the Church. Nevertheless, some reformers argued the policy only further entrenched the division between same-sex and opposite-sex couples within the Church. The Anglican Church is facing a similar conundrum, as traditionalist bishops primarily based in Africa and Asia doubled down on their opposition to same-sex marriage and the ordination of LGBTQ+ clergy. The United Methodist Church has lost nearly one-fourth of its congregations in the United States in a schism over the enforcement of bans on same-sex marriage and LGBTQ+ clergy. As a growing number of progressive congregations have defied the church's ban on LGBTQ+ inclusion, conservative congregations have begun to disaffiliate. Read more in OutNEWS. 🌈 History was made in Greece as it became the first Christian Orthodox-majority country in the world and the first in Europe’s South East to legalize same-sex marriage and adoption. 🎉 For too long, the LGBTQ+ community has faced discrimination and inequality. After months of polarized political and public discourse that highlighted the deep-seated prejudices still existing within our society, where homophobic and transphobic comments are sadly widespread, it is evident that there is still much work needed to promote genuine acceptance and understanding. It is crucial to create a future where homophobia and transphobia are not acceptable, and where every individual is free to live authentically without fear or discrimination. This law is not just about legalizing same-sex marriage; it's about affirming the inherent dignity and worth of every human being. Let's continue to strive for a more fair and inclusive society, where everyone can live their truth proudly and without prejudice. 🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️ #HumanRights #Equality #Inclusion #Greece

Although police departments across the United States have taken steps in recent years to improve relations with the LGBTQ community, new research suggests that LGBTQ people experience more mistreatment by police, have lower levels of trust in law enforcement, and are less likely to call for help, than their non-LGBTQ counterparts, says Stefan Vogler, Assistant Professor of Sociology at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. ❝Sometimes, the names and photos of those arrested were published in newspapers – with potentially dire social and economic consequences.❞ ❝Our study found that LGBTQ people still face more police mistreatment than non-LGBTQ people and have less trust in the police. Perhaps unsurprisingly, they are also significantly more reluctant to call the police for help.❞ ❝Approximately a quarter of all bisexual and queer survey respondents had experienced insulting language during a police interaction. These numbers were even higher for transgender and nonbinary people – 45% and 33%, respectively.❞ ❝When we asked survey respondents if they would call the police for help if they became victims of a crime, we found that LGBTQ people were less likely to say yes than non-LGBTQ people: 71% compared with 87%.❞ https://lnkd.in/ewpu2Fme #lawenforcement #policing #police #communitypolicing #lgbtq

“Homosexuality is Un-African” is a false narrative rooted in imported religions and colonial ideologies, as brilliantly argued by Diekara Oloruntoba-Oju. Precolonial African societies exhibited gender fluidity and diverse spiritual expressions that embraced queer identities. In fact, the rigid binary gender norms we see today are more reflective of colonial impositions than true African traditions. It is time we reclaim our history and acknowledge that LGBTQ+ lives are an integral part of African culture. Uganda’s LGBTQ Community Faces Mounting Rights Violations The human rights violations of Uganda's LGBTQ community is on the rise, with over 1,000 cases recorded in the last nine months, according to a report by the Convening for Equality (CFE) pressure group. Rights violations began to rise early last year, following Ugandan parliament’s announcement that it was considering an anti-homosexuality act. The law, which was eventually enacted last May, imposes severe penalties, including life imprisonment for same-sex intercourse and the death penalty for what it tags "aggravated homosexuality." CFE reported that, following the law’s enactment, there was a surge in human rights violations of sexual minorities with 1,253 recorded cases between last September and May, up from 306 between January and August. Violations include torture, evictions, physical assaults, arbitrary arrests, and extortion, perpetrated by both state and non-state actors, fed by a sustained campaign of false news that paints LGBTQ+ persons as individuals out to recruit children into homosexuality.

Same-sex marriage recently became legalised in Thailand, although it will take effect in 120 days, giving the public and private sectors a grace period to adjust procedures and entitlements to ensure fair treatment for the LGBTQ community. What's even more inspiring is that many private companies had already taken proactive steps to extend employee benefits to same-sex partners even before legislators acted. Gain insights into the topic as Punyanuch Sirisawadwattana, Country Manager at Robert Walters Thailand, shares her input with Nikkei Asia. https://orlo.uk/vd9X3 #RobertWaltersThailand #Thailand #Equality #Talentattraction #Talentretention

J.D. Vance's Focus on Opposing DEI Initiatives and LGBTQ Rights in U.S. Foreign Policy as Senator Foretells Trump-Vance Administration Approach As Senator, Vance held up nominations of dozens of diplomats, sending pre-confirmation questions on how each would support the Administration's policies regarding DEI and LGBTQ rights (one such question below). John Hudson reports that Vance’s memo and intensive scrutiny of Biden’s ambassadorial nominees reflects his view that cultural elitism has infected America’s diplomatic corps and needs to be rooted out. This could foretell how personnel policies advocated in Project 2025 could be executed. Source: The Washington Post https://lnkd.in/dQzyCXDH

In CyberScoop: Emerald Divide, a multi-phase Iranian-linked campaign seeks to divide and undermine Israeli society. "Emerald Divide’s operation can be split into three phases with distinct objectives and corresponding narratives. The first phase sought to increase conflict between Israel’s ultra-Orthodox religious groups and the country’s LGBTQ+ community. The second aimed for political unrest by pitting those on the Israeli left versus those on the Israeli right, while the third and current phase sought to sow discontent among Israelis regarding the government response to the Hamas attacks."
