As a person who has suffered forced removal and assimilation via forced adoption, I see the next step in true reconciliation is the unactioned recommendations from both The Bringing Them Home Report and the 2010 Senate inquiry into the Commonwealth's Contribution to Former Forced Adoption Policies and Practices. We can all stand together and openly accept and acknowledge the impacts through those who lived similar stories. While adequately funding, supporting and redressing those affected together. How location, and specifically AddressBase from Ordnance Survey, which includes the UPRN, will help to underpin success for housing associations navigating the new Social Housing Regulation Act https://bit.ly/3JKSYeP Attend the ‘Healthy Homes’ session at the GeoPlace Annual Conference on 21 May and find out more: https://bit.ly/3ZZ0gCc The Social Housing Regulation Act places new responsibilities on housing associations, requiring them to understand the condition of each home, ensure tenant safety, and respond promptly to queries. This legislation underscores the importance of location data in effectively managing properties and meeting regulatory requirements. Accurate location data is crucial for identifying maintenance needs, energy-saving opportunities, and tenant impacts. However, the effectiveness of insights derived from location data depends on the quality and interoperability of the dataset used. Validating and cleansing property address data against authoritative sources like Ordnance Survey's AddressBase (incorporating the UPRN) ensures accuracy and facilitates integration with other relevant datasets. Additionally, topographic information and building data can provide context and inform decision-making. By leveraging reliable location data, housing associations can better plan maintenance projects, manage costs, and meet environmental sustainability goals. Ordnance Survey offers specialist support to help organisations access the right location data for their needs, empowering them to navigate regulatory complexity and unlock funding opportunities through effective sustainability planning. Meet representatives from Ordnance Survey and GeoPlace at the GeoPlace Annual Conference to find out more. It was an amazing evening on Tuesday, February 6th, as the The African American Chamber of Commerce of New Jersey (AACCNJ) hosted a forum titled, “The Fierce Urgency of Now,” that dissected the State of New Jersey’s recently released Disparity Study. It was no shock to black businesses and diverse founders that it ‘was that bad’ for people of color doing business with the State of New Jersey. Dr. Denise Anderson led the discussion and did an amazing analysis. Here are some quick highlights: · overwhelming disparity between the number of minority- and women-owned construction companies and the percentage of projects they win in the state. · 28% of construction firms in the state are minority-owned, and only received just 3.7% of state-awarded prime contracts · For goods and services contracts, minority businesses represented 23.6% of all firms but won just 4.2% of contracts Furthermore, the report found “statistically significant” disparities in the awarding of subcontracts to minorities across all contract and procurement activities. See the link for the complete report: https://lnkd.in/dhi7kh9x #minorityownedbusiness #diversityandinclusion #supplierdiversity #blackbusiness
