Are you up to date with California's education plans? Check this out. Proposition 2 would issue $10 billion in bonds, with $8.5 billion dedicated to elementary and secondary educational facilities and $1.5 billion for community college facilities. It would also change the formula used to determine the amount each district is required to contribute to be eligible to receive state funding from the bond revenue. The measure would have required the state government to cover between 50 and 55% of construction project costs and 60 and 65% of modernization project costs. A "yes" vote supports issuing $10 billion in bonds to fund construction and modernization of public education facilities. A "no" vote opposes issuing $10 billion in bonds to fund construction and modernization of public education facilities. REGISTER! VOTE! NASFAA recently signed on to a letter ✍️ urging leaders of the House Appropriations committee to reject proposed cuts to programs that provide financial assistance to students pursuing postsecondary education. ✉️ The letter comes in response to the fiscal year 2025 bill for the Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies, which contains an overall request of $68.1 billion to the Department of Education (ED), a reduction of $11 billion from the fiscal year 2024 enacted level and $14.5 billion less than the president’s budget request. The measure would flat-fund the Pell Grant program and cut funding in half for the campus-based aid programs. #HigherEd #HigherEducation #FinancialAid #StudentAid #EducationPolicy

The energy levels of New York City citizens are at an all-time high with the upcoming vote by the NYS legislature to repeal or extend mayoral control of their public school system. They have been fighting for over 20 years to have their elected officials return governance power over public schools back to local communities. Those officials who want to give power back to the people generally say, "We can't go back to the old system and since there is no alternative solution to replace mayoral control, we think it is better to extend it until one is found." Well, there is a solution, and it can begin its initial stages of development on July 1, 2024. I call it the Cooperative Governance Model. Check out my policy memo entitled, "Solution to NYC Mayoral Control of Schools: Cooperative Governance Model." Soon, a paper will be posted that explains the rationale for this model and why it will work.
