Since 2016, 74% of Cannes Lions Grands Prix have been purpose-driven. Will this trend continue this year? While more brands embracing purpose is a positive step, System 1 has noted a decline in the effectiveness of winning campaigns, attributing it to a lack of humour. Very excited to be a judge for The Effie's this year. Here are my 4 big takeaways after letting my experience sink in: Strategists don't network enough. It's easy to become isolated in our worlds. Get out and pick more brains! You never know where a new approach to attacking a problem could be hiding. It's a good prescription for imposter syndrome too 😉 A good idea is only as strong as the environment it lives in. A smart comms strategy is paramount to making any idea sing in our extremely fragmented digital lives. Selling a client on a crazy idea takes masterful (and simple!) storytelling. How can a simple insight drive massive results? What connective tissue is needed to get your partners to see an opportunity the same way you do? Strong client relationships matter here too. Building trust and excitement with smaller projects can go a long way in the end game. Never copy & paste your case studies. Take the time to hone, simplify, and romance for the category you're entering work in. The story of how a campaign came to be is just as important as the idea itself. Big results mean nothing without context. Simplicity is also key here. Remind yourself judges are going through piles of submissions. Best of luck to all of the entrants this year. I'm not envious of the tough decisions the final judges have to make!

Reflections about winning my first award after being in business for close to 20 years.. ✅Now I have popped my award cherry I want more of it! ✅It has really made me realise who my cheerleaders and my tribe are; as people whom I have not heard from for a while including past clients have got in contact to congratulate me which meant the world !💕 ✅It has helped me value much more the unique value that I bring to the world on a whole different level;. This is largely because I have been so focused on showcasing other people’s value through running my PR agency; that I have neglected showcasing my own value quite a bit! 👍Not any more 🥺🎯 👏😘I am looking forward to next year and to shaking things up massively the way I work, how I work, and who I will work with. And I will be doing different kinds of work too, in new and innovative ways. ✅Awards yes are a pat on the back and an ego boost; which is helpful for all of us myself included and a marker in the sand too. 🧐In terms of visibility does it cause more people to take you seriously? ✅Absolutely it does! 🧐Does it create publicity opportunities? 😅Not as many as people want or think it warrants as the national press are not that interested in awards; although your local and regional media might be much more or your trade press for the industry that you are in. Depending on what kind of award it is too depends on the value it has. Generally though; the award boosts your authority and credibility in your niche and amongst your clients. Yes, the media see them as a marker of your authority but nowhere near as much as we think they do!😂 🧐Do your clients love that you have won an award? ✅Yes they do as it builds even more trust in you and your abilities.
