🔃 🔁 "People are just craving respect in today's world and culture", when referring to workplace psychological safety. Amanda Treppa shared her story 2 weeks ago. In our work with Workplace Psychological Safety Act, we're often asked - "what IS psychological abuse in the workplace and isn't it a slippery slope toward people not being able to have a bad day"? In beautiful duality, as Amanda and I explore, yes someone can be having a bad day and yes, the way they treat someone could be psychological abuse. The goal of the Workplace Psychological Safety Act is to create regulation so that businesses can build into code of conduct, how to treat one another in the workplace - something that we do not have today. Because we don't yet have this law, it is nearly impossible to prove workplace psychological abuse much less get any justice - the employer and the abuser go along about their business as the abused is left to make life or death calls for their wellbeing - yes, it's that real. We also share, in duality, that we wish to hold abusers and employers accountable AND find empathy toward those that are themselves in survival mode perpetuating the workplace systems rooted in white supremacy, patriarchy, colonialism, and capitalism. Amanda is a head of HR actively dismantling these systems. As such, she implores, "if someone reaches out to you, take it seriously". The playbook of a person being abused raising their hand, going to HR, and then being "worked out" of the workplace is tired and no longer acceptable.
