Community for caregivers. It's essential. "Building a supportive community for employees with caregiving responsibilities is essential for their well-being and for the overall health of the organization, and should be considered as part of the overall benefits package included with more traditional benefits such as flexible work arrangements, back-up eldercare, and family leave." In my years in marketing, I've noticed a growing trend of professionals discussing stepping away from their careers for caregiving. I recently returned myself, and I appreciate the transparency around this significant decision. There's no need for embarrassment or secrecy; caregiving is a valuable experience that teaches resilience and growth. #Caregiving #Resilience #ProfessionalDevelopment

For many families, the need for a dependable caregiver is not just a convenience but a necessity. According to a report by the National Alliance for Caregiving, over 43 million Americans have provided unpaid care to an adult or child in the last year. This staggering number highlights the significant reliance on informal caregiving, often performed by family members who are already stretched thin by their own responsibilities. The challenge is exacerbated by the growing number of dual-income households. In the United States, the proportion of dual-income households has risen from 31% in 1996 to a much higher percentage today, driven by the increasing participation of women in the workforce. According to the OECD Employment and Labor Market Statistics, around 62% of women in the United States are now self-employed or employed, and many families find themselves juggling work and home duties with little external support. Take the story of Sarah, a busy marketing executive and mother of two. With her husband working long hours and her children needing constant attention, Sarah found herself overwhelmed. She needed help but was wary of letting strangers into her home. After several disappointing experiences with independent cleaners and unreliable babysitters, Sarah almost gave up hope. SageHub is not just a service; it's a movement towards a more organized and stress-free lifestyle. By integrating technology with personalized home care services, SageHub ensures reliability and transparency. Families can easily find, schedule, and pay for professional caregivers through a user-friendly platform. What sets SageHub apart is its dual commitment to quality service and caregiver support. The impact that caregiver duties is having on workplace well-being and productivity is real. 1 in 5 American workers are shouldering the burden of caring for a loved one- whether it’s an aging family member or sick child. Not surprisingly, these individuals are dedicating more and more time to caregiving- 26 hours a week in 2023, which is up significantly from 9 hours in 2020. What’s more, only 44% of caregiver colleagues feel their benefits actually meet their needs. Whether evaluating assisted living arrangements, coordinating meal delivery services, or vetting childcare options, the myriad of unforeseen challenges is often complex and overwhelming. As employees take on more caregiver duties, there is an increasing risk of physical, financial, and mental stress, impacting engagement, productivity, and potentially resulting in a leave of absence. I’m proud of Guardian’s commitment to supporting caregivers. Through our recent partnership with Wellthy, we’re delivering hands-on support to caregivers so they can access expert resources when they need them most. Take a look at this piece Lindsay Jurist-Rosner and I wrote which expands on the caregiving crisis and dives into ways employers and brokers can implement solutions to provide adequate support.
