"Indeed, a lot of employers have no idea what’s going on in the lives of their employees who are caregivers, according to a 2019 study at Harvard Business School by professor Joseph B. Fuller and program director Manjari Raman. Only 24 percent of the employers in the study said that caregiving influenced workers’ performance. Meanwhile, 80 percent of employees with caregiving responsibilities conceded that caregiving affected their productivity." If you've been reading articles about the caregiving crisis for months (or even years), you know it's beyond time to support the parents and caregivers in your organization -- because they're already struggling. We're proud to bridge the gap between employers and their employees, so that no one has to weather caregiving struggles alone.

In the U.S., more than 53 million family caregivers are unpaid, providing 34 billion hours of care annually, amounting to an estimated $67 billion in personal lost earnings. As caregiving in America faces the twin pressures of an aging baby boomer generation and rising life expectancy, the United States’ long-term care system threatens to tip into crisis. The film will personalize this urgent national issue through stories from caregivers and interviews with experts as they fight to give caregivers the security and support, they provide for so many others. The project also includes a robust national engagement campaign. The series will examine caregiving from multiple perspectives: the creation and evolution of the care system; the social dynamics that shape our approach to caregiving today and the future possibilities; the lives of caregivers and their relationships with those in their care; the interpersonal and economic pressures faced by caregivers; and the broader societal context in which caregiving operates on the margins yet affects everyone. Approximately 65% of seniors are still receiving primarily informal care. Whether it’s from a spouse, a child, or another family member, informal care is typically the first choice by most seniors. So, what resources are there that can help empower family care coordinators? 💜 Consult an Expert – While this may seem trivial, many family caregivers go into the process of coordinating care, or administering it blindly, without receiving any advice from a professional. Going through the various options with a knowledgeable professional who has knowledge of resources is invaluable in forming a plan for long-term care. 💜 Get Support – Whether enlisting the help of a mental health professional, a spouse, or an online support group, having a support infrastructure is key – for both the aging senior and the caregiver! 💜 Accurate Assessments – Knowing what is going on with an aging senior and getting an accurate care plan that addresses their needs is key. As older adults can sometimes conceal, or even not be aware of the extent of the support that they require, assessing their needs can be challenging and confusing. 💜 Embrace Technology – Whether it’s investing in a senior-friendly tablet that eases communication and provides entertainment or a home system that helps prevent falls and guards the mental and physical well-being of your loved one, technology can ease the burden of family caregiving. Families will continue to be an important link in the chain of caregiving, whether shouldering all of the care duties or coordinating paid care. 💜 #familycare #caregiver #sensi

What is Family Caregiving? Family caregiving, or informal caregiving, involves individuals providing care to family members or loved ones due to health conditions, disabilities, or aging. This role is crucial for the healthcare system and impacts both caregivers and the broader economic and social landscape. ❤️🩹 100 million US adults are caregivers, with 53 million caring for a spouse, elderly parent, relative, or special-needs child. This has risen by 10 million since 2015. ❤️🩹 Caregiving costs the US economy nearly $44 billion, leading to job losses and absenteeism. ❤️🩹 Average weekly hours spent caregiving increased from 9 in 2020 to 26 in 2023. ❤️🩹 Care recipients include older adults (41%), special-needs children (29%), and others. ❤️🩹 85% of caregivers care for a relative, often parents, with most living within 20 minutes of the care recipient. Family caregiving is a vital and growing part of the US healthcare system. Family members providing care face financial, emotional, and physical stress, often juggling caregiving with personal and professional responsibilities. As the population ages, the role of family caregivers will expand, highlighting the need for increased support and recognition. Are you a family caregiver?
