What is a Project? The best definition according to Professor Peter Barrett,  Salford University 'It's a means to a means to an end.' Refers to a process or action that is undertaken in order to achieve another goal, which itself is ultimately intended to achieve a final, larger objective. It implies that the initial step is not important or valuable in itself, but only serves as a necessary tool to reach the desired outcome. Example 1: "Going back to University for my Specialization was a means to a means to an end. It was a challenging and expensive process, but it opened up new career opportunities that I wouldn't have had otherwise." Example 2: "Taking this internship was a means to a means to an end. It allowed me to gain experience, which helped me get my dream job." Example 3: Constructing a new public library might not be solely about the building itself, but also about fostering a community hub for education, cultural events, and social interaction. So the projects that we love to do as designers, engineers, architects, and constructors, always we need to keep in mind that they are means to a means to a client's end. And that's important because lean is focused on outcomes.

It reflects my mastery of design principles acquired through academic study, practical application of this knowledge during internships, and creative exploration of innovative concepts in personal works. Engaging with aspiring graduate students in architecture and planning, especially those considering studying abroad, makes me genuinely happy. It's heartening to see their awareness of critical global issues of today in architecture and planning world, and their genuine desire to create positive change. One of the most frequent questions I receive during our discussions is: "How much professional experience is required before pursuing a master's degree?" While there's no one-size-fits-all answer, here are some considerations to help you make an informed decision: 1️⃣ Assess Your Goals Reflect on your career aspirations and the role a master's degree will play in achieving them. Are you looking to specialize in a particular area? Advance your career? Transition to a new role or industry? 2️⃣ Industry Standards Research the admission criteria of your preferred programs. Some may value professional experience, while others prioritize academic achievements or the strength of your portfolio. 3️⃣ Networking and Mentorship Connect with professionals in your field to gain insights into the value of professional experience versus advanced education. Mentorship can provide invaluable guidance tailored to your individual circumstances. 4️⃣ Internship Opportunities Explore internship or co-op opportunities during your undergraduate studies to gain practical experience and clarify your career interests. These experiences can also enhance your graduate school applications. 5️⃣ Personal Readiness Ensure you have a solid understanding of the architectural and/or planning issues shaping our urban environments. This will help you feel personally ready for the advanced coursework of graduate studies. Ultimately, the decision to pursue a master's degree in architecture or planning should align with your career goals, interests, and personal circumstances. While there's no definitive rule for the amount of professional experience required, relevant experience undoubtedly enriches your graduate school journey by offering real-world insights!
