🗞️Paperboy 🎳Skittles sticker upper 🏪Checkout attendant 🥖Bakery assistant 📦Warehouse packer 🏭Paint factory worker 🪵Sawmill dogsbody 🍽️Waiter 🍺Bartender 🌃Night shift worker Even though I started relatively young, before my business journey (and even during the early days), I had a LOT of low-pay, hard-graft, under-appreciation jobs. Many of which I actually look back on fondly and several left me with some valuable skills (not to mention humorous stories). The other benefit was that I always knew what the "worse case scenario" looked like. I was more than willing and able to do the jobs that just need doing in order to survive. There are many paths to entrepreneurship, it doesn't have to just rely on relevant experience, easy funding or nepotism (which are certainly the easier options if you have them available 😛). Do what needs to be done, there's absolutely zero shame in it. Personally, I have even more respect for those who didn't get to jump straight to the fun stuff.

Friday #barnlife update: Dan carries stones up a hill 😲 This and other riveting details in this week's update... Also, I found the captions button in CapCut as apparently 79% of people watching video on LinkedIn have no audio. Which to be fair, is true for me most of the time too 😅

You're going to be working towards your dream for far longer than you'll spend appreciating it when you get there. In fact, more often than not, the happiness and joy that was expected is either very short-lived or even non-existent having achieved a significant goal. This is called "the arrival fallacy" and is widely documented across successful sports personalities, celebrities and in business. I'd speculate, many successful games creators have suffered this having committed their lives to a seemingly impossible dream only to finally get there and in the process lose the mission that drove them. All that is to say, make damn sure you're enjoying your journey, it's even more important than the destination. And if you're not, ask yourself what is in your control you can change to make it so.

🤷♂️Gamebiz founders: "I'm terrible with social media" This statement and variations of it is probably the most common thing I hear from my discussions with aspiring games business entrepreneurs. Whilst being a social media butterfly is far from essential, it can be an extremely powerful tool for networking and business development. Particularly so if you don't have a pre-existing network or have much access to in-person events. Social media isn't all about being an insufferable "celebrity", you can find your tribe and get and receive genuine value with the right approach. Fortunately, Derek Lieu has your back with this excellent and insightful blog post on how to do a social media. Whilst the context is specific to game trailer creators, the advice is equally applicable to any discipline. A great read: https://lnkd.in/ebvQYcSG

1yI enjoyed a lot of my more menial jobs, although they could be tedious you always felt you could get somewhere with it, or work overtime for top up cash. I particularly enjoyed being a paperboy, it was nice being out on my bike in the early morning, unless it was snowing or raining!
