🚨 Reminder: Check the Backseat! 🚨 As temperatures rise, it's crucial to remember the importance of checking the backseat before you exit your vehicle. Since 1998, a heartbreaking 972 pediatric deaths have occurred due to heatstroke after being left in hot cars. Texas holds the tragic record with 134 of these deaths. 🌞 Why It Matters: • Children are more vulnerable to heatstroke because their bodies heat up 3-5 times faster than adults. • Even a short time in a hot car can be fatal. • The temperature inside a car can increase by 20 degrees in just 10 minutes, even with a window cracked. Share this message and help save lives. Let's work together to ensure no child is left behind in a hot car. Stay vigilant, stay safe. 🌟 #CheckTheBackseat #HeatstrokePrevention #ChildSafety #SummerSafety #CAS

#DidYouKnow the bodies of young children heat up three to five times faster than an adult’s body! In just 10 minutes, the hot temperature inside of a car can rise approximately 20 degrees. And, cracking a window does not help! 😰 Reduce the number of deaths from heatstroke by remembering to ACT. 👇 A - Avoid heatstroke-related injury and death by never leaving a child alone in a car, not even for a minute. And make sure to keep your car locked when you’re not inside so kids don’t get in on their own. 🌡️ C - Create reminders. Keep a stuffed animal or other memento in your child’s car seat when it’s empty and move it to the front seat as a visual reminder when your child is in the back seat. Or place and secure your phone, briefcase or purse in the backseat when traveling with your child. 🌡️ T - Take action. If you see a child alone in a car, call 911. Emergency personnel want you to call. They are trained to respond to these situations. ☀️ Take a moment to read this incredibly helpful blog at 🔗 https://ow.ly/9TBC50SQjhH . . #WakeMed #SafeKids #SafeKidsWakeCounty #InjuryPrevention #HeatStroke #HeatStrokePrevention

Managing Bedwetting Keep the following tips in mind: Do not blame your child. Remember that it is not your child's fault. Offer support, not punishment, for wet nights. Be honest with your child about what is going on. Let your child know it's not their fault and that most children outgrow bedwetting. Be sensitive to your child's feelings. If you don't make a big issue out of bedwetting, chances are your child won't either. Also remind your child that other children wet the bed. Protect the bed. A plastic cover under the sheets protects the mattress. Let your child help. Encourage your child to help change the wet sheets and covers. This teaches responsibility. It can also keep your child from feeling embarrassed if the rest of the family knows. However, if your child sees this as punishment, it is not recommended. Set a no-teasing rule in your family. Do not let family members, especially siblings, tease your child. Let them know that it's not your child's fault. Be aware of your child's urine and bowel habits. It’s a story that happens all. the. time. The emergency room is important to rule out a more life threatening set of injuries. In other words - ‘you’re alive. Get out.’ But what happens after a few days and I’m not better (or even worse)? It’s time to get evaluated for a concussion! Stick around to learn more about what goes into that evaluation and why it may or may not be done in the emergency department. #Concussion #ConcussionRehab #ConcussionEducation #ConcussionAwareness #ConcussionClinic #ConcussionRecovery #MWConcussion

Telling a patient ‘you’ll be fine in a couple days’ or not even addressing the potential concussion following an ED visit is a MAJOR issue. An ED evaluation is difficult, thorough and lifesaving, but it can also be misleading. Concussions don’t show up on advanced imaging. Focus stays on the physical injuries, not the ‘invisible’ ones. Not everyone experiences symptoms by the time they are in the ED. The ED does exactly what it’s designed to do. ‘You’re alive. Get out.’ It needs to be discussed with patients that they need to follow-up with a concussion specialist or their primary care provider within a few days post concussive event. Even if symptoms aren’t immediately apparent post event. #Concussion #ConcussionRehab #ConcussionEducation #ConcussionAwareness #ConcussionClinic #ConcussionRecovery #MWConcussion
