Mark Teixeira is a three-time Major League Baseball All-Star and 2009 World Series champion. But for all his success on the baseball diamond, he is just as highly regarded for his work off the field. Teixeira established scholarship endowments at his alma maters of Mount Saint Joseph High School in Baltimore and Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta. He is a board member for The Emerald Corridor Foundation, which not only works to build and restore safe green spaces and waterways in Atlanta, but also helps strengthen the community via education, job training and employment opportunities. He has been a supporter of DREAM, a New York nonprofit that has been supported by the Heisman Trophy Trust. DREAM is a youth development organization that uses the power of teams to inspire inner-city youth to recognize their potential and realize their dreams through its school, after-school and summer programs. This tremendous positive impact in multiple communities is why Mark Teixeira was awarded the Heisman Humanitarian Award in 2018. #Heisman #MoreThanATrophy

During her high school career at Pillow Academy in Greenwood, MS, Dia Chawla learned that while winning is about the hard work you’re willing to put in, it must be acknowledged that not everyone has the same opportunities to excel. So while in high school, she began an ACT Preparation class with seven African American students from a nearby public school. She later invited seven students from her own school to join the class, thus founding the ACT Diversity Preparation Club. On the field, Dia was a varsity starter on the tennis team in sixth grade and later won a state title. She led her basketball team in free throw percentage her junior year and secured a spot as a key reserve on the 2020 Academy High School basketball state championship team. Dia also captained the state championship dance team and has won 12 individual first place and high scores in Mid South regional competitive dance. Today, Dia is a student at Georgetown University, and is the Co-President of the Georgetown Bipartisan Coalition. This level of overall excellence is why Dia Chalwa was a recipient of the 2021 Heisman High School Scholarship. #Heisman #MoreThanATrophy

Founded in 1958 as a children's reading group, EHTP is now a multi-site after-school program for public school students, and a network of charter schools focused on helping kids in East Harlem attend and graduate from college. The Companions in Courage Foundation was founded by NHL Hall of Famer Pat LaFontaine as a way to connect hospitalized children with their family, friends and heroes. Companions in Courage raises funds to build interactive playrooms in hospitals throughout North America. These playrooms give kids a place to connect to family, friends and celebrities during each hospital stay. Because of his stalwart belief that "no child in the fight for life or health should ever have to go through it alone," Pat LaFontaine was presented with the Heisman Humanitarian Award in 2008.
