Today HealthWorks was honored to welcome members of Virginia Senator Tim Kaine’s team to our Leesburg center – Senior Health Policy Advisor Samantha Koehler and Regional Director Rachel Reibach. We enjoyed a robust discussion about the challenges and opportunities facing Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) like HealthWorks, and we shared our vision for a healthier future for the residents of Fairfax and Loudoun Counties. We also gave them a tour of our Leesburg location, including our new Radiology Department that opened earlier this year. Samantha and Rachel were engaged, supportive, and eager to learn more. All of us at HealthWorks are grateful to them and Senator Kaine for their commitment to understanding and improving our community's health needs. We are already looking forward to our next discussion with this team. #HealthWorks #CommunityHealth #SenatorKaine #HealthAndWellness #MakingADifference

"Taken together, these findings reveal an OB/GYN physician workforce in Texas under considerable stress and suggest more work is needed to understand and track how the OB/GYN physician workforce in Texas is changing as a result of these laws, and, most importantly, to protect and support as best as possible the physicians, resident physicians, and their teams that are continuing to provide the full complement of OB/GYN services in the state." As CVS Health’s Chief Medical Officer, Sree Chaguturu, and Oak Street Health’s Chief Medical Officer, Ali Khan, explain in this video from Fortune Well, it all comes down to proactivity. Up to 80% of a patient’s health is influenced by factors outside the medical setting. Connecting the dots between high temperatures and patients missing primary care appointments - new research from the American Journal of Preventive Medicine authored by Janet Fitzpatrick, Adrienne Willard and colleagues. Drawing from patient experience in Philadelphia, the time series analysis demonstrates the potential impact that extreme temperatures can have on peoples' health outcomes. Over 1 million patient records were examined generated from 13 university-based outpatient clinics. The researchers looked at missed appointment rates for those in: - Cold season for every 1 degree F decreased below 39 degrees, and, - Warm season for every 1 degree F above 89 degrees. Note the conclusion, clipped below and highlighting that, "Primary care physicians should identify vulnerable patients and implement alternative methods of providing care during temperature extremes to decrease the negative impact and reduce the risk of missed appointments....(such as) telemedicine as a permanent option to supplement in-person visits." #Climatechange is a driver of health risks and opportunity to bolster health equity and access. cc American Telemedicine Association Consumer Technology Association HLTH Inc.
