Epic's Latest Epic Wins! At this year’s Epic Users Group Meeting in Verona, Wis., 19 health systems decided to bid farewell to their old EHR vendors and embrace the world of Epic. The theme of the Users Group Meeting was Storytime, and Ms. Faulkner was dressed as Lady Swan, her version of Mother Goose. From Oracle Health to Meditech, and everything in between, these organizations are making a bold move towards what they hope will be a smoother, more integrated future. Here’s to the brave health systems making the leap—because in the world of healthcare IT, change is the only constant. #HealthcareIT #EHR #Epic #DigitalTransformation

Pretty slick integration - given how good iPhone integrates with MacBook makes you realize how underutilized “seamless connectivity” our ecosystems are. But whenever I join a meeting on my MacBook / FaceTime and it gives me an option to switch my camera to iPhone… you realize “connected thinking” is often missing (blame vendors never wanting to work together) with developers. "One platform to rule them all" is often the thinking but you give up so much. Epic and Apple wasn’t on my top list of vendors that’d work together ever, but note they both share tight control of their ecosystems - meaning they tend to know exactly what they expect and want. Pretty darn interesting development with Nabla and Epic.

🚀 Thoughtful Risk-Taking in Healthcare IT: A Game-Changer for Patients & Organizations 🚀 In healthcare IT, thoughtful risk-taking is key to efficiency, better service, and improved patient care. Here’s how Sentara Health is rethinking traditional processes during Epic upgrades for time-saving and smoother operations: 🔹 Feb 2023 Epic Upgrade Implemented Hyperspace Version Independent Launcher, allowing pre-deployment of the new client, cutting 20+ minutes of downtime. 🔹 Aug 2023 Epic Upgrade By switching to restricted access, we avoided moving users from RPT to PRD, reducing downtime by 5-10 minutes. 🔹 March 2024 Epic Upgrade (Nov23 Version) Reviewed release notes and found CPM updates didn’t require 1.5-2 hours of downtime, streamlining the process and cutting unnecessary downtime. 🔹 October 2024 Epic Upgrade (Feb/May 24 Version) Streamlined the process for packaging shared system changes, reducing downtime by 7-10 minutes, bringing total end-user downtime to just 17 minutes. These calculated risks challenge the status quo, improve system efficiency, and enhance the user experience. By embracing change and collaborating closely with teams, we save time, reduce downtime, and deliver better care. Huge thanks to Brittany Marshall, MPH, Kristina Malleck, PMP, Paula Rodgers, Shilo Jacobson, and our Epic Infrastructure and Application teams for making these advancements possible. #HealthcareIT #EpicUpgrade #RiskTaking #InnovationInHealthcare #PatientCare #Efficiency #ITLeadership Jeffrey Thomas Nathan Smith Ravi Ballamudi Taylor Groves

Judy Faulkner and Epic have steadfastly avoided complying with interoperability standards as a means of maintaining their significant market position. Ask yourself: why should a healthcare system purchase and install Epic at its currently astronomical price if the can implement a different EMR at a fraction of the cost but having comparable functionality if one can agnostically share key patient clinical data with any EMR? Inquiring minds want to know.
Epic's fix for interoperability, per Judy Faulkner
