It’s Developmental Disability Awareness Month! Developmental disabilities can affect a person's ability to communicate, learn, socialize, and complete daily tasks. They can range from mild to severe and may be caused by a variety of factors, including genetic conditions, environmental factors, and prenatal exposure to substances. This month is a time to honor the developmentally disabled and to bring awareness to a group who are just as intelligent, capable, and strong as other able-bodied Americans. So, let’s celebrate the diversity and unique strengths of individuals with developmental disabilities. By recognizing their talents and abilities, we can break down stereotypes and promote a culture of inclusion. #inclusionmatters #DDAM2024 #hcmhddc

July is Disability Pride Month! 🩶🩷💛🤍🩵💚🩶 Disability Pride Month is celebrated every year in July, the month the ADA was signed into law in 1990. It is a time to celebrate the strength, resilience, & diverse experiences of people with disabilities — one of many communities that has been marginalized in our country. Did you know that 1 in 4 adults in California has a disability? People with disabilities are significantly more likely to experience food insecurity compared to those without disabilities. Barriers such as lack of accessible transportation, higher medical costs, and discrimination in employment all contribute to this disparity. In July and always, let us honor and celebrate people with physical disabilities, emotional and psychiatric disabilities, sensory disabilities, neurodivergence, and any invisible or not-yet-diagnosed disabilities. Let us work together to create a safe, accessible, and hunger-free future for everyone. #DisabilityPrideMonth #DisabilityPride #EndHunger

PIP would like to recognize NATIONAL BARRIER AWARENESS DAY! Eighty percent of Americans will experience some disability in their lifetime. That makes it necessary for all of us to understand and appreciate both the barriers they must surmount and the contributions that they can make to our society. On May 7th each year, we are charged with breaking down obstacles on National Barrier Awareness Day. We are responsible for dissolving stigmas keeping people with disabilities from advancing in education. It's an opportunity to tear down walls and build ramps that provide access. Visible and invisible barriers are equally difficult to overcome. With advocacy, education, and awareness these obstacles can be lifted, empowering people with disabilities to live more independent fulfilled lives. HOW TO OBSERVE BARRIER AWARENESS DAY 1. Learn about disabilities 2. Find businesses that promote disability awareness and support disabled individuals 3. Pay attention to laws and policies being passed that support people with disabilities or that can harm them How do you observe barrier awareness day? Comment below! #BarrierAwarenessDay #Disabilities #SpecialEducation #EFMP #MilitaryChildren #MilitaryFamilies
