The animus and derision that exists between some academic and non-academic physical therapists is quite frankly one of the most idiotic things in our profession. As is this completely fabricated notion that these two settings are so fundamentally divergent from each other. This literally serves no good and only weakens the profession. It’s also not reality. Most physical therapy faculty members transitioned to academia after years spent in clinical practice. Do people think they just forgot about the clinical side or have no concern for the sustainability of the profession? Many still practice. Why disparage people for having different interests or changing them at different points of their career? I think it’s great that our profession has so many options for people to pursue that match their interests and as their career evolves. Whether you are a clinician, administrator, practice owner, educator, researcher, advocate, etc., you are a member of the profession. Each physical therapist cares deeply about the profession and is concerned about its sustainability. I wish more would be more involved with our professional organizations and advocacy but that’s up to the individual. However, we’re all ultimately on the same team. It’s about time we start acting like it. When it comes to fighting the real challenges to the profession (payment and scope of practice) we need everyone on board. If the profession no longer remains sustainable, everyone will be out of the job they love and sacrificed so much for. #physicaltherapy

Clinical Integration | Strategic Planning | Professional Development | Driving Success Through Operations, Leadership, & Financial Metrics | Bridging the Gap Between Clinical Excellence and Organizational Development.
In this episode of Strata Stories, Paul Singh, CEO of Strata, converses with Justin Stiver, owner of Total Therapy Florida, about effective strategies for hiring and retaining great therapists. Justin shares his approach to building a successful practice, which has grown from one to seven clinics across Florida. A key focus of their discussion is the importance of creating a continuing education program and the implications of the FTC's ban on non-compete agreements for the physical therapy industry. Justin emphasizes the value of networking over traditional hiring methods. He prefers to build relationships with potential hires over time, ensuring a good cultural fit before extending job offers. This approach has helped him attract and retain top talent, such as Mason, a highly skilled PT who was promoted to Director of Clinical Education. Mason's role involves staying updated with the latest research and techniques, mentoring new hires, and ensuring consistent quality across all clinics. This strategy not only enhances the skills of the team but also contributes to employee satisfaction and retention. The conversation also touches on the FTC's recent ruling on non-compete agreements. Both Paul and Justin agree that while the ban may present challenges, it also offers opportunities for practices to differentiate themselves and attract talent by creating a supportive and enriching work environment. Justin believes that focusing on employee development and satisfaction is key to retaining staff, even in a competitive job market. 🔑Key Takeaways: •Networking Over Traditional Hiring: Justin prefers to build relationships with potential hires over time, ensuring a good cultural fit before extending job offers. •Continuing Education Program: Establishing a dedicated role for clinical education helps maintain high standards and consistent quality across all clinics. •Employee Development: Providing opportunities for professional growth and development is crucial for retaining top talent. •Impact of FTC's Non-Compete Ban: The ban on non-compete agreements forces practices to focus on creating a supportive and enriching work environment to attract and retain employees. •Flexibility in Roles: Mason's role as Director of Clinical Education includes treating patients when needed, ensuring he remains a revenue-generating asset while also contributing to the team's development. •Cultural Fit and Engagement: Employees who are engaged in the practice's continuing education and development programs are more likely to be retained and contribute positively to the team. •Proactive Recruitment: Always be recruiting by maintaining a network of potential hires and being ready to make room for top talent when they become available. This episode underscores the importance of strategic hiring, continuous professional development, and adapting to regulatory changes to build a successful and resilient therapy practice.

As physical therapists, we are passionate about helping you achieve optimal health and well-being. We want to be your partner on your journey to recovery and improved function. To make the most of your physical therapy experience, there are a few things we wish all our patients knew. Let's dive in and explore five important insights that can enhance your therapy journey and lead you to a better quality of life. 1. You Don't Need a Doctor's Referral to See a Physical Therapist Many people believe that they need a doctor's referral to see a physical therapist. However, this is not the case. In most states, you have direct access to physical therapy, which means you can schedule an appointment with a physical therapist without a referral from your primary care physician. Direct access allows you to seek timely treatment and start your journey to recovery sooner. So, don't hesitate to reach out to us directly if you're experiencing pain, injury, or mobility issues. (Tennessee has direct access and does not require a referral to begin physical therapy). #KeepingActivePeopleActive #NashvillePT #NashvillePhysicalTherapy #NashvillePhysicalTherapyAndPerformance #NashvillePhysicalTherapist #GetPT1st #ChoosePT #5ThingsPhysicalTherapistsWishYouKnew #NoReferralNeeded
